Jimmy Smith - Softly As A Summer Breeze (1958)  Music

Jazz, Post Bop | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 49 min | 114 MB
Label: Blue Note | Rel: 1958

Softly as a Summer Breeze is one of Jimmy Smith's more obscure Blue Note dates. The six-song trio program finds the organist joined by either guitarist Kenny Burrell and drummer Philly Joe Jones, or guitarist Eddie McFadden and drummer Donald Bailey. At first glance, the album may look like a ballad-oriented set, but "Hackensack" really cooks, "Sometimes I'm Happy" struts, and "One for Philly Joe" (a familiar but unplaceable melody used for a later pop tune) heats thing up, and the LP has its exciting moments.

Over a misty weekend in winter, composer Joel Pike aka Tiny Leaves, gathered a few of his favourite musicians deep in the Shropshire countryside. Together they laid down A Certain Tide, the anticipated second full length album from Tiny Leaves. The album captures a special moment in time, recorded over a few hidden days. It was here that the tracks were played live for the first time and the resulting recording carries a hopeful, fresh and intimate sound. The album became a whole, threaded through piece by piece, making it play almost as one long song.

Following his critically acclaimed 1999 collaboration with M Griffin, Altara, this is the first A Produce solo album of new material since Inscape And Landscape (1996). One of the underappreciated greats of the ambient/atmospheric genre, A Produce masterfully demonstrates with Smile On The Void his unique approach - blending deep, churning ambient atmospheres with compelling yet restrained trance rhythms.
