Language: Silent with Japanese Intertitles | Subtitle: English | Runtime: 79min | 699.87MB
Genre: Drama

Director: Yasujiro Ozu
Ozu's last silent film reflects the post-Depression reality of 1930's Japan with a sensitive, sympathetic portrayal of the down-and-out that prefigures the neorealism of works like De Sica's The Bicycle Thief. Under a harsh, unforgiving sun, widower Kihachi wanders looking for work in the parched, industrial flatlands with his two young sons. After earning food by turning in stray dogs to the police, Kihachi finally finds work at a factory. But when the daughter of a kind woman they meet falls ill, Kihachi contemplates theft in order to save her life. The atmospheric cinematography has a near-tactile quality that renders the many scenes played out in scorching summer heat oppressively visceral

An Inn at Osaka, rarely seen outside Japan, follows the story of an insurance company executive from Tokyo, Mr. Mito, who is demoted to the Osaka office. He takes a room at a small inn and tries to rebuild his life. Notable for its exquisite framing and cinematography, An Inn at Osaka allows its complicated plotlines to disappear behind the minutiae of penury and humiliation that Mito and others suffer during the post-war economic and social reconstruction.

Jeff Beck is undeniably one of the world s greatest guitar players. Technically brilliant, he is renowned for pushing musical boundaries and has excelled across many different genres from rock and jazz to pop and blues. Live In Tokyo was recorded at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Japan on April 9th this year. These Japanese dates were the first to feature Jeff Beck s new backing band of Jonathan Joseph (drums), Nicolas Meier (guitars) and Rhonda Smith (bass) and the setlist includes some material from his new, as yet unreleased, studio album. In contrast to Beck s previous visual releases, both filmed in small clubs, Live In Tokyo is filmed in a major concert arena and has a very different, more expansive feel. Jeff Beck is a true guitar legend and this show captures him at his very best.
