Antonio Carluccio travels to Sicily to discover more about one of the most successful novels ever written in the Italian language, The Leopard by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Whilst tracing the locations that inspired the book, Antonio cooks the food that is such an integral part of the lives of its characters. Giuseppe Tomasi, Prince of Lampedusa, who died in 1957, had seen his family fortune disappear during his lifetime. The Palermo palace he lived in as a child had been destroyed by American bombing in the Second World War and the family's country villa was reduced to rubble by an earthquake.

Italian food has always had a touch of the working class hero about it. There are no unnecessary flourishes, no pretensions, no arrogance. Dishes that had their roots in traditional peasant food are cooked with the same desire to feed the soul, and not to indulge the whimsical desires of the food snob. Unlike their culinary cousins the French, the Italians have never forgotten that food is a pleasure of the palate, not the mind. If there is a man alive who represents these values, it is Antonio Carluccio. Familiar to millions as the chipper Italian chef who has graced our screens since the early 80s, Carluccio has since gone on to dominate British high streets with his eponymous chain of cafés and series of books and DVDs.

Tears of Joy is the Italian guitar hero's ninth and most indulgent album to date. Recorded over a residency with hailed engineer Martin Levan at Red Kite Studios in the seclusion of deepest Carmarthenshire, Forcione was joined by a host of world class musicians, including the Antonio Forcione Quartet. Tears of Joy truly marks the affirmation of a great musical visionary's compositions and arrangements. An awesome mixture of utterly compelling original material, the music on Tears Of Joy has been written, arranged and produced by Antonio Forcione. He evokes a wide range of emotions from deep contemplation to ecstatic celebration, combining technical brilliance with emotional depth.

Italian | Sperling & Kupfer | 2010 | ISBN: 8820049600 | 271 pages | EPUB | 3 MB

Come è nata l'Italia?
