The Sirens of Titan - Apocalypse Sessions (2015/2017)
alternative, country-alt, acoustic, alternative blues | 41:04 mins | MP3, 320 kbps | 94 MB
Label: S.M.I.L.E.

2017 release. The Sirens of Titan are the musical incarnation of author, editor and poet John-Paul Pryor, whose debut novel Spectacles was praised by Dazed & Confused magazine as "A dreamlike vision of a lawless dystopian future", drawing comparison to works of other underground outsiders, such as Jean Genet. Lyrically, Apocalypse Sessions contains the hallmarks of melancholia, desire and transgression that underpins all John-Paul's work, inviting the listener into a raw, flawed and poetic dreamtime. The entire album was recorded in live session with the producer Andy Strange and John-Paul's long-time musical partners Jez Leather and Sami Salo, know collectively as The Sirens of Titan. The session feel of the debut is intended as a riposte to the over-produced music of the zeitgeist.

Vangelis is one of the most celebrated electronic musicians ever. His albums feature symphony orchestras to augment his electronics. His older discs are classics in the symphonic synthesizer style. L'Apocalypse Des Animaux is one of his earliest albums. It is the soundtrack to the Frederic Rossi film of the same name. The LP is short (35 minutes), as it was originally recorded in the analog domain. Vangelis has always had the innate ability to paint pictures with his music. The atmospheres are lush and full, and deep listeners will see the music.

The Apocalypse Blues Revue - The new band from Godsmack’s Shannon Larkin and Tony Rombola announce new self titled album released on Provogue/Mascot Label Group. As the legend goes, Robert Johnson infamously started his career by meeting the Devil at the crossroads. By the same token, you could say Apocalypse Blues Revue began playing at the end of the world. Co-founded by Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin and guitarist Tony Rombola and featuring vocalist Ray “Rafer John” Cerbone and bassist Brian Carpenter, the quartet honors blues traditions, while etching their stamp on the genre in blood…

Made as a complete album rather than a collection of tracks, Conservative Apocalypse is a journey through the subconscious. I have experimented with augmenting recorded sound with electronic instruments to give atmosphere to commonplace situations, and originally the record was to be entitled Augmented Aurality. However due to the appalling lurch towards fascism that is taking place in the western world I thought it more appropriate to call the album Conservative Apocalypse after the eighth track. This was made deliberately as an accelerating train journey, I found a picture of the inside of a railway carriage that seemed particularly evocative and after cutting out the window, began the journey of creating the film. Nearly all the material was found online and patched together into this composite of a trip through our confused modern world. The slow start and acceleration of the ride I felt was analogous to how nasty social movements start.

"As far as blues goes, The Apocalypse Blues Revue is a little heavier, a little darker, and has some punk rock attitude in the lyrics," says Shannon.

If the big heels and the high-production fashion values have you skeptical about this lady, keep reading. Purring and snarling through “Your One And Only”, crowing danger through the tasty acoustic gem “Behind My Back”, double-daring her way through the buoyant “Purple Tattoos”, Cathy Jean has a natural gift for pairing her formidable voice with some pretty mean presence and solid song-writing (not a single cover on the entire CD). Blues fans will want to skip string-coated pop fare like “You Don’t Know”, but most of the rest is great stuff– seductive, tough and convincing, backed by a terrific group. Excellent and recommended.

The Finnish power metal act presents it's new album “Apocalypse Again” on 01st of April. It is not only the return of the band after almost six years, “Apocalypse Again” sees Pasi Rantanen re-unite with THUNDERSTONE. The band’s original vocalist, who left after 2007’s “Evolution 4.0”, has been an integral part of THUNDERSTONE’s characteristic sound ever since and was sorely missed after his departure back then. “Apocalypse Again” is melodic metal perfection. From the speedy opening track “Veterans Of The Apocalypse”, across the catchy single “The Path” with its uplifting chorus, to the epic completion with “Barren Land” - it clearly shows that THUNDERSTONE are one of the finest offerings in the current scene and how much Rantanen was missing. Welcome back!
