Flautist Art Webb performed and recorded with top artists through the heyday of jazz fusion and furthermore made his mark on the salsa scene. Mr. Flute and Love Yes were his only two solo albums, both recorded in 1977 with the contrasting production teams of Patrick Adams and Jerry Schoebaum/John Lee. Patrick brings a soulful disco flavour to the debut Mr. Flute and features a collaboration with the group Raices, while former Roy Ayers producer Jerry alongside John Lee (of John Lee & Gerry Brown) bring a sophisticated soul flavour to songs like Arts classic reading of You Cant Hide Love featuring the vocals of Tawatha

The third of three volumes chronicling Pepper's complete Aladdin recordings, Blue Note's Art of Pepper, Vol. 3 finds the West Coast alto saxophonist in top form over the course of 12 stunning cuts. Recorded in 1957, the set takes in both Pepper originals ("Holiday Flight," "Surf Ride") and choice standards ("Long Ago and Faraway," "Without a Song"). There's also a fine cover of the rare Bud Powell cut "Webb City." Topped off with excellent work by pianist Carl Perkins, bassist Ben Tucker, and drummer Chuck Flores, this collection is a must-have for all Pepper fans.

One of the greatest West Coast jazz LPs of all time! Art Pepper plays beautiful spiralling alto lines with a tight quartet that includes Russ Freeman on piano, Chuck Flores on drums, and Ben Tucker on bass. The whole thing swings in a way that's tough to find on some of Pepper's other albums from the time, and the track list includes "Dianne's Dilemma", "Blues In", "Blues Out", and "Cool Bunny".

The original idea was for Art Garfunkel to record an album of songs written by Jimmy Webb. But when the leadoff single, "Crying in My Sleep," failed to make the charts, Columbia Records withdrew the album and induced Garfunkel to put together a cover of Sam Cooke's "(What A) Wonderful World" with Paul Simon and James Taylor harmonizing. The single and a revised version of the album then made the Top 40.

Saxophonist extraordinaire Doug Webb leaves Los Angeles behind and keeps working straight ahead towards "Another Scene." Recorded in New York City, Webb's latest collection of hard hitting performances features stellar support from the east coast rhythm section of pianist Peter Zak, bassist Dwayne Burno, and drummer Rudy Royston. The cats in the band do some heavy lifting behind the sensational melodicism and harmonic direction of their fearless leader. Moving straight ahead on "Another Scene," Doug Webb continues to proclaim that he's a saxophonist to keep an eye on.
