The Civil War was a major turning point in American religious thought, argues Mark A. Noll. Although Christian believers agreed with one another that the Bible was authoritative and that it should be interpreted through commonsense principles, there was rampant disagreement about what Scripture taught about slavery. Furthermore, most Americans continued to believe that God ruled over the affairs of people and nations, but they were radically divided in their interpretations of what God was doing in and through the war.

Completed in Chicago over the course of the last 6 months, Benn Jordan's newest album offers a change of pace from his usual releases under The Flashbulb monicker. Instead of lengthy and diverse blends of ideas and genres, Love As A Dark Hallway is a more brief and focused showcase of Jordan's compositional and performance skills, most notably in jazz guitar and piano. More importantly, the album attempts to bridge the electronic and avant-garde genres of Jordan's notoriety with the jazz virtuoso genres that have inspired his work throughout his life.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - The Pacific Age (1986) {Virgin First Press}

The Pacific Age is the last OMD album to feature founding member Paul Humphreys (although The Best of OMD does collect a pair of subsequent singles). With producer Stephen Hague returning and guests Graham and Martin Weir elevated to full-time members, OMD aggressively targets the American pop market cultivated with Crush and the Top Ten single "If You Leave." With the Weir's horns and a trio of female backing vocalists, the music on The Pacific Age sounds larger than life (the opening "Stay" in particular), a trait common to popular music in the mid-'80s.
