He's developed his own unique blend of Berlin school & space music that hearkens back to the golden age of instrumental synth music. "Berlin Impressions" is a tribute to the early Berlin electronic music scene - gone are the days of analog production - this CD is a homage to the old electronic sounds created with the latest technology.

Pointless Reminder (1999). Free System Projekt is Marcel Engels. "Pointless Reminder" delivers 56 minutes of supercharged electronic music directly evolved from the Berlin School. In fact, this music is quite immersed in that sound, with rich synthesizer sweeps and sinuous E-perc rhythms and seething walls of sequencer loops. Strong melodies imbibe these sounds with grand majesty and affluent energy. Sequencer cycles expand to brilliantly expressive capacity in tandem with thick tonalities lurking in the background. Interesting chords flow through this mix, sparkling like luminous hummingbirds. With song lengths of ten and sixteen minutes, these tracks are allowed ample time to evolve into refined compositions, glowing with tremendous maturity…

Bernd Kistenmacher is a German producer and musician specialised in spherical "kosmische" synthscapes. He started his career in the 80's with a handful of sonic, epic synthesized electronic efforts taking inspiration from Klaus Schulze and the Berlin electronic school. His musical releases deliver complex, achieved floating dreamy-like melodies floating throw deep cerebral spaces. Published in 1987, "Wake up in the sun" can be considered among his classic albums. He also collaborated with the drummer and synthesist Harald Grosskopf (Wallenstein, Klaus Schulze, The Cosmic Jockers…) for the long piece "Stadtgarten Live". In 1988 Bernd created "Musique Intemporelle" - a label, which, although didn't last long, managed to gain a cult status among EM connoisseurs.

Melody & Ambience (1995). Uwe Saher issued Brainwork V, Melody & Ambience, two hours of music sprawled out over two discs that seemed like both a culmination, mark of intent, and developmental statement all at once. There is an immense amount of music to ingest here, Saher honing his craft along dimensions previously charted (Vangelis influence remains keenly felt, as does the aforementioned Jarre, and, of course, the Berlin School grads), but across the records breadth Saher continues to push against the constrictions of genre music, in manners reasonably successful by any measure. Stylistic embroidery and rampant eclecticism aside, enough wonderful sounds dance out of the stereo field to satisfy both the jaded and virginal…

Alpha Wave Movement (established 1992) is the electronic music project of Gregory T. Kyryluk. Alpha Wave Movement's musical style can be considered ambient, New Age, some space rock, and the classic 1970s period German style electronic music otherwise known as Berlin school and the ambient aesthetics of Brian Eno, and Steve Roach.

Thomas Fanger and Mario Schönwälder from the famous Manikin label play wonderful Berlin School Retro electronic music similar to Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream. Bas Broekhuis adds drums on the last track. Some very long and contemplative tracks on this 2CD set.

When The Omega Syndicate burst onto the scene in 2004 with their exhilarating debut “Analogue Waves” they quickly made quite an impression and many friends into the bargain. In a UK scene often accused of being lacklustre and amateurish, The Omega Syndicate have flown in the face of any such criticism with their exciting and dynamic fresh sounding take on the traditional Berlin School sound. Although they are creating long tracks with synths, sequencers and Mellotrons, what they produce is wholly original and while it can be said firmly and squarely to be “Berlin School”, it doesn’t always sound like a clone of Schulze or Tangerine Dream.

A superb combination at this live event, held 1991 in Cologne. The two musicians joined their forces to create an outstanding work of Berlin School / rhythm and drum music. 3 long pieces show a good expresion of the evening. Overall, a synth album with plenty of live atmosphere, an attractive and unusual emphasis on live drums, and involving variations from abstract to highly integrated sounds.

The American synthesist Paul Ellis is a fast growing power in electronic music. From the Berlin school-orientated music he created with the band Dweller at the Threshold and on his early solo works, he switched to an impressive mixture between Berlin school, ambient and lots of own inventions. His album "the Sacred Ordinary" already was a masterpiece but what he has done on "Silent Conversations" is no less than sensational. On "Silent Conversations" there is an important place for the genius of ambient Steve Roach, who contributes on four of the nine tracks…
