In retrospect, it is not hard to find hints of a coming change in the final album Cat Stevens made before a near-death experience and a religious conversion.

Blues-based British hard rock trio who formed in 1972. The band - John Reid (vocals, guitar), Gordon Rowley (bass, vocals) and David Williams (drums, vocals) - gigged incessantly and earned a reputation as a perennial support act, but lacked the individuality to reach headline status…
Back To Earth features an exquisite tracklist of tunes that reveal the true extent of Eat Static's musical ingenuity. The album is infused with dashes of Arabian and jazzy influences alongside solid rhythmic elements and layers of spaced out, otherworldly effects that bear their precision-crafted signature. Coursing through breaks, dub and lounge territory, Back To Earth includes collaborations with Ed Wynne of the Ozric Tentacles and Steve Hillage of System 7 and Mirror System notoriety. Complete with an unparalleled degree of stylistic variety and detail, this album lands just in time for the summer season, encapsulating all that people have come to expect from Eat Static over the years.
At first, Lisa Ekdahl's squeaky, girlish voice may seem inappropriate for the pop standards she has chosen to make her trade, but given some time, her voice and laid-back style become endearing. True, she occasionally seems mannered and borrows heavily from her inspirations (most notably Billie Holiday), but she shows signs of developing her own style throughout her second American album, Back to Earth. Like its predecessor, When Did You Leave Heaven, Back to Earth was recorded with the Peter Nordahl Trio and has a charming mellow vibe. ~ AllMusic
