On her new album, cello superstar Sol Gabetta teams up with one of the best young artists, French pianist Bertrand Chamayou. Gabetta and Chamayou have played together on many occasions and quickly became both friends and artistic partners. They collaborated on the album concept and will tour this repertoire in Europe throughout 2015. The Chopin Album contains a selection of pieces by well-loved composer Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) as well as music by his close friend, the composer and cellist Auguste-Joseph Franchomme (1808-1884).

Recorded in the spring and summer of 2011, Bertrand Chamayou's set of Franz Liszt's Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage) was released just in time to honor the composer's 200th anniversary in October. That year saw a number of releases and reissues of the complete Années, and this ambitious collection of picturesque vignettes became increasingly popular despite its considerable length. The years in the title were the late 1830s, when Liszt and the Countess Marie d'Agoult traveled across Switzerland and Italy, and the pieces summon the full range of Romantic piano gestures and techniques, put at the service of poetic description and expressive power.

Few pianists can claim a more impressive recording debut than Alexander Krichel’s masterful Liszt recital in 2011 (Telos/Profil). It was followed by two concerto releases, the first offering works by Mozart, Hummel and Chopin and a second with Rachmaninov’s Second Concerto and the Moments musicaux (both Sony Classical) as well as another solo disc with a mixed Romantic programme. All these suggest a steady career trajectory and artistic growth unencumbered by external pressures. Krichel, a Hamburg native who turns 28 this year, has now released an all-Ravel disc, replete with shimmering surfaces and gossamer textures beautifully captured by the Sony engineers.
