Things got off to a good start when David Ruffin left The Temptations. He had a smash hit with "My Whole World Ended(The Moment You Left Me)" and a decent hit with "I've Lost Everything". But then he did not have another hit until 1975, with "Walk Away From Love". Whats more interesting is what took place during the intervening years, such as his legendary unreleased album, recorded between 1970 and '71. Hardcore Ruffin fans maintain that this was his best solo material and would have taken him to another level of stardom, but strangely, Motown did not release it. Some of these songs have turned up over the years on compilations like this one,(Each Day Is A Lifetime) and his scorching version of The Jackson Five's "I Want You Back",(Motown's Greatest Rarities Vol. 1).

It was probably David Bowie's record-company affiliation difficulties that kept the 1993 Buddha of Suburbia soundtrack to a British TV miniseries from being released in the U.S. until 1995, when it was slipped out in the wake of his new album, Outside. That's too bad, because The Buddha of Suburbia is an often engaging collection of songs and instrumental passages that recalls many previous Bowie albums, including such disparate efforts as The Man Who Sold the World, Aladdin Sane, and Low. It's not a major effort by any means, but in another context songs like "Strangers When We Meet" easily could become Bowie favorites.

David Bowie - The Buddha of Suburbia (1993)

The album is David Bowie's nineteenth full-length studio recording. The Buddha of Suburbia is a 1993 soundtrack album by David Bowie which accompanied the 4-part television serial The Buddha of Suburbia on BBC2 (itself adapted from the book The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi). Three of the tracks are ambient instrumentals and two of these tracks ("The Mysteries" and "Ian Fish, UK Heir") are similar to Bowie's work with Brian Eno in the late 1970s. The other tracks on the album make strong use of saxophone, keyboard and piano.
