One of the more intriguing Purple eras from over the years was their "Mark IV" lineup, which was comprised of David Coverdale (vocals), Glenn Hughes (vocals, bass), Tommy Bolin (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), and Ian Paice (drums). The reason being that there was no Ritchie Blackmore in their ranks, and this lineup only managed a single studio album, the oft-overlooked Come Taste the Band, and a year after disbanding in 1976, a subpar live album, Last Concert in Japan…

Live in Paris 1975 is a live album by the British hard rock band Deep Purple, recorded in 1975 at the Palais des Sports in Paris. It was meant to be released before the 1975 Come Taste the Band album, but was not released until 2001 by Purple Records. In early 1975, the guitarist Ritchie Blackmore recorded his first album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Rainbow and decided to leave Deep Purple. This made the band's show in Paris on 7 April 1975 a historic moment in their long career, marking Blackmore's final appearance with the band until the band reformed in 1984…

Recorded live in Aachen on July 10th 1970. Sourced from original bootlegs, it's a very powerful and atmospheric set with the emphasis on the instrumentality of the band - just four lengthy tracks, with 'Mandrake Root' clocking in at over half an hour long…

By most accounts, Deep Purple's 1993 European tour was quite a memorable one, not so much for the musical performances, but because it was in the middle of this tour that founding guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left the band for good – marking the last time the group's classic Mk II lineup ever toured together…

Live in Japan is a triple live album by English rock group Deep Purple, released on CD in November 1993. The album was recorded over three nights in August 1972 in Japan. It's a "Twenty-first anniversary collectors 3CD set" of Made in Japan. All 21 tracks were mixed in 1993. The tracks on the album are mostly from their studio album Machine Head, which was released a few months earlier. According to the liner notes, unlike many live albums, there were "No studio overdubs, no splicing in of solos from other shows, and no fake applause." Recorded live 15, 16 and 17 August 1972 in Osaka and Tokyo, Japan.

In 1997, Dave Alvin – former guitarist and songwriter with the Blasters, and one of the leading advocates of classic blues and R&B on the West Coast roots rock scene – played a special show in Long Beach, California, where he was joined by three very special guests. The fabled Texas fiddler and guitarist Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Chicago harmonica master Billy Boy Arnold, and San Francisco-born blues guitarist Joe Louis Walker all sat in with Alvin that evening, making for a very eventful evening for fans of blues and American roots music. The show was captured on tape, and Live in Long Beach 1997 allows listeners to hear Alvin mix it up on-stage with a few of his heroes. Songs include "Barn Burning", "Long White Cadillac", "I Wish You Would", "Chains of Love", "Jolie Blon", "Wabash Cannonball", and more.

For the most part, live albums by rock bands are issued after a band has established themselves for a period of time and built up a repertoire that their audiences has become familiar with. In other words, few capture a band just as they had begun to find their identity and sound, such as the 2006 Deep Purple entry from their "Official Archive Collection" titled Live in Montreux 1969…
