In the mold of recent 2-CD Legacy Editions of the classic albums From Elvis In Memphis and On Stage, Elvis Is Back (Legacy Edition) is the definitive version of one of Elvis most essential albums, expanded to include another historically significant album from the time period and the hit singles associated with both albums. It is argued by many that Elvis Is Back is possibly the best album Elvis ever recorded. During his two years in the army, Elvis had spent what spare time he had expanding his vocal range and improving his technique. Combined with a challenging and diverse repertoire, a new band of Nashville session aces, and improved three-track recording technology, it was an almost completely new Elvis who emerged in April of 1960. Recorded over just two nights, the sessions produced not only the twelve album tracks, but also six tracks for single release, including three #1 singles: all-time classics It s Now Or Never, Are You Lonesome Tonight? and Stuck On You.

Today it all seems so easy – RCA signs up the kid from Memphis, television gets interested at around the same time, and the rest is history. The circumstances surrounding this album were neither simple nor promising, however, nor was there anything in the history of popular music up to that time to hint that Elvis Presley was going to be anything other than "Steve Sholes' folly," which was what rival executives were already whispering. So a lot was unsettled and untried at the first of two groups of sessions that produced the Elvis Presley album – it wasn't even certain that there was any reason for a rock & roll artist to cut an album, because teenagers bought 45s, not LPs.

One of the latest classic albums to get the FTD treatment is Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas. With the help of outtakes not being overdubbed in any way, it reveals a more intimate and sensitive side of the Christmas recordings that took place in Nashville during two nights in May, 1971. (A remake of one of the songs, I'll Be Home On Christmas Day, was done one month later but not used on the original album.) Maybe it was the great big decorated Christmas tree that was placed in the middle of RCA's Studio B that got Elvis in the right mood for the session. Maybe Lamar Fike dressed up as Santa Claus did the trick. Whatever the reason Elvis seems to be having a good time from the start.

A new 2CD set of Elvis’ final studio recordings to be released in August. RCA Records and Legacy Recordings are to release Way Down In The Jungle Room, a new double CD (and 2LP vinyl) collection of Elvis Presley‘s last studio recordings. This comprehensive collection brings together, for the first time, master recordings and rare outtakes laid down during two sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Presley’s home studio in Graceland – known as the “Jungle Room”. The outtakes have been newly mixed (by engineer Matt Ross-Spang) at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.

Elvis remixes are notorious for dividing fans. Some love them, others hate them. Pragmatically, contemporary remixing of the Elvis catalog is critical for bringing Elvis' vast musical legacy to new and younger audiences. There is no doubt contemporary remixes of Elvis songs is anathema to some fans, particularly many older fans. However, as the massive success of Elvis vs JXL demonstrated in 2002, there is a largely untapped, predominately younger market, for well produced Elvis remixes.

The British arm of RCA made a habit of outdoing the home office in compiling Elvis Presley recordings, and this one was no exception. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the stand-out rock & roll songwriting team of the late ’50s and early ’60s, began working with Presley after his cover of their «Hound Dog,» originally written for Big Mama Thornton, became a big hit. The duo’s primary assignments were the songs for the films Jailhouse Rock and Kid Creole, though their efforts also turned up in other Presley vehicles. There were enough of them to fill an LP, and RCA U.K. got an unusually cohesive Presley album by pulling together material recorded between 1956 and 1968.
