Françoise Hardy, France's leading female singer-songwriter of the 60's and 70's,, recorded quite extensively in English, Italian, German and Spanish but relatively little of that material is obtainable these days. So this 2013 compilation is invaluable since it comprises 24 songs in english from her albums En Englais (issued in 1968), One-Nine-Seven-Zero (1969) and Françoise Hardy (1972) recorded in Paris and London. "Midnights Blues" mixes nicely Hardy's own compositions with tender and sensual interpretations of songs by Neil Young, Beverley Martyn, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newmanand and others. Beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautiful girl. Enjoy a delightful album and a lot of Francoise's photos.

The original Yeh-Yeh Girl, Françoise Hardy's singing career began with a brilliant self-titled debut in 1962. The album encapsulated Hardy's coy, dreamlike, and beautifully melancholic sonic persona with a collection of 11 mostly original songs. The album featured a few hits, including the particularly notable "Tous les Garçons et les Filles," which sold millions as a single. This repackaging of the original album also includes Canta per Voi in Italiano, an album issued shortly after the debut with some of its songs and additional numbers re-recorded in Italian. While the original album is a classic of French pop, '60s AM magic, and of course a forerunner of the yeh-yeh (aka yé-yé) sound, the additional tracks in Italian are a sweet counterpart.

Genre: Chanson, Pop | Label: RPM-Retro

Fans of French pop of the 1960s need to get this collection, no questions asked. Sylvie Vartan may not have the hipster cred that Françoise Hardy or France Gall each have, possibly because she never crossed over to the U.K. and U.S. like Hardy did or never worked with Serge Gainsbourg like Gall. She also suffers a little by having a long career that lasted through the '70s and '80s, and fell prey to many of the cheesier aspects of those decades. Irresistiblement: Sylvie Vartan 1965-1968 shows that Vartan was equal, if not superior, to any French singer of the '60s.

If you have a good or almost good 60's music collection, this album will help round off your collection & fill the gaps. Really good to hear the actress Diana Dors - a very under rated singing voice & BB - even if the words are in French. Yes, all in all a good, slightly different, sixties album, well worth the money. We get 60 good quality tracks from the years 1959 to 1962 spread across the 3cd's. The tracks that have been chosen are very good, they range from early U.S soul tracks, chirpy teen pop to Classy Brit and French offerings. There are some class acts on offer - Etta James, Barbara Lyn, Julie Grant to name a few. It's nice to hear a few very early outings of Nancy Sinatra (a couple of them aren't bad) and it's always great to hear anything by Francoise Hardy and BB. Overall, It's a neat looking package with quite good sound quality. There is no booklet, just a one sided into with a few small pics spread over the inside.

Mark Knopfler's fine soundtrack to the film Metroland nicely evokes the picture's wistful, nostalgic atmosphere. Rounding out the collection are late-'70s classics from Dire Straits ("Sultans of Swing"), Elvis Costello ("Alison") and the Stranglers ("Peaches"), in addition to left-field inclusions like Françoise Hardy's "Tous Les Garcons et Les Filles" and Django Reinhardt's "Blues Clair."…

My lover Saint John 1 is a French song from 1942 which was a huge success. Realistic love song recounting the next day without a girl for a seductive, lyrics by Leo Agel and music of Emile Carrara on a musette waltz rhythm. Françoise Hardy is the debut studio album by the pop singer Françoise Hardy French. It was released in November 1962 in France. Like Many of Hardy's albums Earlier, It was released with no title, except for her name on the cover. Claude Nougaro, born September 9, 1929 in Toulouse and died March 4, 2004 in Paris, was a French poet and singer-songwriter. A great lover of jazz, Latin and African music, playing words with the French language, uniting French songs and rhythms.
