Atomic Rooster experienced several lineup changes during their initial tenure in the early '70s, with Nice 'n' Greasy being the band's last before disbanding. By this time the band's musical direction had shifted from hard rock and progressive rock to a style more closely resembling blues/funk…

This album accents Jackson's strengths; no one sings with more conviction, earnestness, and passion on love ballads, as he demonstrates repeatedly during such songs as "Love Me Down," "Do Me Again," "All Over You" (CD bonus cut), and "I'll Be Waiting for You." He has yet to record a captivating uptempo tune, but "I Can't Take It" came close. It's doubtful as to whether Jackson can overtake Vandross in the '90s, but hopefully RCA will at least put him in the race.

Freddie Jackson ended his five-album stay at Capitol ended with Time for Love, a satisfying effort that isn't much different from his previous Capitol releases. The New Yorker obviously knew what his strengths were - smooth soul/urban contemporary music and romantic ballads and once again, the singer succeeds by zeroing in on them.

Steven Troch got “contaminated” by the blues in his late teens and over the years has turned into a very fine traditional bluesharp player with an extra dose of originality. But it would be a great injustice to label him as just a good harmonica player, he’s also an accomplished vocalist and original songwriter.

Nice 'n' Greasy is the fifth studio album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. In the US, the record was issued on Elektra in a different sleeve (pictured) to most territories and retitled Atomic Rooster IV, as their first album, Atomic Roooster, failed to secure a US release. The US album also had a somewhat different tracklist to the UK version. The German release followed the US track listing, but with a phallic art sleeve. It was further reissued in Germany in 1977, this time in yet another new sleeve and retitled This is Atomic Rooster Vol. 2. more…

Reissue with the latest remastering. Features original cover artwork. One of Art Blakey's final recordings as a leader features two separate pianists (Benny Green and Mulgrew Miller) and two bassists (Leon Lee Dorsey and Lonnie Plaxico) taking part, along with the guest appearance of former Jazz Messenger Freddie Hubbard. Blakey was going deaf near the end of his life and sounds a tad tentative at times, while Hubbard's return may have been more to improve his chops (which had been in question after his experiments with fusion). The trumpeter seems rejuvenated by working with his former boss and his latest crop of Young Lions, who also include tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson.

This session for the French Black & Blue label (which was released domestically on an LP by Classic Jazz) features an all-star swing sextet comprised of trumpeter Wallace Davenport, trombonist Vic Dickenson, tenor saxpohonist Buddy Tate, pianist Claude Hopkins, bassist Arvell Shaw and drummer Cozy Cole. They perform swing and Dixieland standards along with a feature for Cole and Shaw on the more recent "Eva." Other highlights include "I Never Knew I Could Love Anybody," "Linger Awhile" and "Farewell Blues." Nothing too surprising occurs but these highly expressive players come up with consistently colorful ideas that should please mainstream fans.

Evolución is the name of a Chilean Progressive rock band. Although founded and active since the Eighties, keyboards player Pedro Muñoz' group had to wait for more than twenty years before its works were eventually published, thanks to the good care of the Musea and Mylodon labels. "La Era De Piscis" is thus a collection of pieces recorded between 1982 and 1986. As for the music, it is halfway between the Progressive rock of Camel ("Music Inspired By The Snow Goose" period) and Eighties-like fusion jazz-rock, the whole with an innate melodic sense. The quality of the whole album is simply so remarkable that you finally wonder why such music was never officially released earlier!

Space are an English indie band from Liverpool, who came to prominence in the mid-1990s with hit singles such as "Female of the Species", "Me and You Versus the World", "Neighbourhood", "Avenging Angels" and "The Ballad of Tom Jones". They worked with both Tom Jones in 1999 and Cerys Matthews a year earlier. The band had formed in 1993 and released three studio albums, plus a number of charting singles, before eventually disbanding in 2005. In 2011, two years after the death of original drummer Andy Parle, the band announced they would reunite with Tommy Scott, Jamie Murphy and Franny Griffiths returning alongside three new members…
