The 1990s has been somewhat kind to Goldmark's music. His symphonies have been well recorded, particularly by Yodani Butt with the Philharmonia (ASV), while his chamber music is getting noticed (not excluding his Suites for Violin and Piano well executed by Wallin and Canino under CPO). Record companies have been re-issuing great recordings of his Rustic Wedding Symphony under Abravanel and Bernstein while others kept recordings of his works from deletion (including Hungaroton's recording of "Die Koniga von Sheba").

Tunes for 'Toons: Music and the Hollywood Cartoon by Daniel Goldmark
English | Oct 10, 2005 | ISBN: 0520236173 | 243 Pages | PDF | 2 MB

In the first in-depth examination of music written for Hollywood animated cartoons of the 1930s through the 1950s, Daniel Goldmark provides a brilliant account of the enormous creative effort that went into setting cartoons to music and shows how this effort shaped the characters and stories that have become embedded in American culture. Focusing on classical music, opera, and jazz, Goldmark considers the genre and compositional style of cartoons produced by major Hollywood animation studios, including Warner Bros., MGM, Lantz, and the Fleischers.

Finland's Jean Sibelius is perhaps the most important composer associated with nationalism in music and one of the most influential in the development of the symphony and symphonic poem. Sibelius was born in southern Finland, the second of three children. His physician father left the family bankrupt, owing to his financial extravagance, a trait that, along with heavy drinking, he would pass on to Jean. Jean showed talent on the violin and at age nine composed his first work for it, Rain Drops. In 1885 Sibelius entered the University of Helsinki to study law, but after only a year found himself drawn back to music. He took up composition studies with Martin Wegelius and violin with Mitrofan Wasiliev, then Hermann Csillag…

Anthology is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's 26th album, and first anthology album, released in November 2002. It is a two-disc set with all the songs personally picked by Simon. Over the course of the two discs, every one her studio albums (up until that point) is represented with at least one song (not including her just-released Christmas album or her 1993 opera, Romulus Hunt: A Family Opera, on which she only actually performs on one track). The booklet features numerous photographs from Simon's archives, as well as extensive liner notes by Jack Mauro, a lifelong fan of Simon's.
