Fans have been waiting a long time for Bo Diddley to get the serious attention and reissue campaign he deserves. What a delight it is to find oneself listening to disc one of "I'm A Man: The Chess Masters 1955 - 1958", witnessing previously unheard primal ooze from the very creation of rock 'n' roll, happy as a baby that, thanks to context and previously unheard and historically crucial material - including two alternate versions of 'Bo Diddley ' itself, each surprisingly different from the other AND from the final master we all know and love - it all absolutely sounds so new again, so urgent, and so pleasureable, not the least bit academic or 'interesting' in the way you might expect when you notice a boxed set by a major artist includes several previously ureleased alternate takes.

A Man Alive is Thao & The Get Down Stay Down’s fourth album. It is another amazing sonic next step for the band following up on the success of We The Common (2013), which was largely inspired by Thao’s volunteer work with the California Coalition for Women’s Prisoners, A Man Alive is an evolution in both subject matter and sound. Thao says: “I wanted A Man Alive to be beat- and bass-driven—rather than guitar-based – expanding upon the hip-hop influences of the previous record. A Man Alive is more instrumental, more riff- and loop-centric, and has more manipulated sounds.” The Get Down Stay Down are at their best on this record, and Thao herself experimented with programming beats for several tracks complementing the live drums played on every song.

Double-Grammy winner Travis Tritt is slated to release a new double-disc live album and DVD, A Man and His Guitar: Live From the Franklin Theatre, on Nov. 18. Originally released in 1983, this album was recorded in between the 2 Toto albums "IV" and "Isolation", and includes most of the Toto band members, plus almost all the best studioperformers of L.A. at the time (Tom Kelly, Billy Steinberg a.m.o). The songs are well written and powerfully recorded. The 2 best known songs are the title track "Taking A Cold Look" and "Alone". The last one was also released some years later by the band Heart, but I personally like this original version better. If you like the mid-80's AOR/Westcoast sound, this album is a MUST, and the sooner you buy it, the better - for you!

Lucky's not boasting; rather, he utters the lyric with flat out matter-of-factness. The Saskatoon bred songwriter's lyrics about the things he's borne witness to become more believable with each line on that song, especially when he sings, "I've seen the Rio Grande… I sang Townes Van Zandt." But Lucky wouldn't need to sing a single decipherable lyric to make the song believable its tearful pedal steel and, above all, his husky, weathered voice, sell its road weariness completely.

The programme contains four songs which were chosen from among the more memorable chartbusters of recent vintage. Louis van Dijk, also spelled Louis van Dyke (born 27 November 1941 in Amsterdam, North Holland), is a Dutch pianist. He was educated as a classical piano-player and like so many other jazz musicans he became fascinated by the instrument in church. His father was sexton in the Prinsessekerk in Amsterdam. He studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory and became interested in jazz. For young jazz musicians the Loosdrecht festival was a usefull leg to success.

A Woman a Man Walked By arrived just a year and a half after PJ Harvey's equally difficult and brilliant White Chalk. That alone makes it notable, since the last time she released albums in such quick succession was the early to mid-'90s, around the same time of her last songwriting collaboration with John Parish, Dance Hall at Louse Point. That album's unbridled experiments provided a sharp contrast to the subversive polish of its predecessor, To Bring You My Love; while A Woman a Man Walked By isn't quite as overt an about-face from White Chalk, the difference is still distinct…
