Classic Publications | Eric Mombeek | English | 2003 | ISBN 19032232XX | 96 pages | PDF | 57 + 451 + 115 + 243 MB

A detailed photographic series portraying the aircraft, camouflage, and markings of the Luftwaffe Fighter Force during the whole World War Two. This third volume covers the central war years of the Jagdwaffe.

The volume three contains the following sections

Section 1 Strike in the Balkans April-May 1941 ISBN: 1903223202
Section 2 Barbarossa, June-December 1941 ISBN: 1903223210
Section 3 War over the Desert June 1940-June 1942 ISBN: 1903223229
Section 4 The War in Russia - January-October 1942 ISBN: 1903223237

This volume deals with Luftwaffe fighter activity in the Balkans in the Spring of 1941 when German forces got embroiled in a conflict which seriously, some say fatally, delayed the start of Barbarossa, addresses the Luftwaffe fighter units which participated in the beginning of the epic struggle against the Soviets in 1941. Explains why German forces came to be fighting in North Africa and covers in detail the Luftwaffe fighter operations in this theatre. Originally flying in aid of Italian forces, from February 1941 the German fighter force then flew in support of Rommel's famed Afrika Korps, and this title describes German fighter operations during Operations Brevity and Battleaxe, the Crusader battles, the capture of Tobruk and Rommel's advance to El Alamein. The story of the Jagdwaffe on the Eastern Front continues with an explanation of the reasons for the German retreat from Moscow in late 1941 and subsequent rallying of forces prior to the advances of 1942. This book chronicles the astonishing victories scored by Luftwaffe fighter aces over the Soviet Air Force during battle for the Crimea and during the advance on Stalingrad and describes the activities of the Luftwaffe's fighter-force in its battles over the Russian Front.

Although the Jagdwaffe series is a detailed examination of Luftwaffe fighter camouflage and markings and pictorial the series also covers the history of the Jagdwaffe. This particular book looks at the German preparation and plan of campaign for the Battle of Britain and covers the opening phase of the battle from 1 July to 12 August 1940. What I particularly like is the separate boxed text of interviews of Luftwaffe fighter pilots giving a brief history of themselves and usually also describing an exciting fighter engagement. Like the previous books in the series this book includes many photographs and colour profiles of Messerschmitt 109s that would prove invaluable to the keen modeling enthusiast. This book explains how and why Messerschmitt 109 E camouflage and markings changed in this period to tone down the colours against the channel and english countryside. Also included in this book is a six page biography on Werner Molders. This is an excellent book and series and is highly recommended to those who have an interest in the Luftwaffe and specifically Volume Two to those who have an interest in the Battle of Britain.

Rommel's advance into Egypt forced the Allies to retreat to the El Alamein defenses. As the British Eighth Army prepared for a massive offensive attack, there followed a period of stalemate on the ground, but in the air the Luftwaffe was faced with a numerically superior force. Luftwaffe's fighter units, outnumbered and continually starved of supplies, fought on in support of Rommel's final battles in North Africa and against the vital British island fortress of Malta. Eventually forced to tranfer units from an already critical situation on the Russian Front, German fighter pilots faced growing Allied air power but achieved some outstanding successes, and for a while the battle for Malta hung in the balance. German and Italian forces in North Africa were eventually defeated by superior Allied forces, ULTRA intelligence and the 'Torch' landings. This title tells the story of the German fighter force in North Africa from the El Alamein offensive in October 1942 to final defeat in Tunisia in May 1943. Contains numerous first-hand accounts.
