With this 3-CD collection you get to hear the original Sun Records recordings of The Killer's best and most popular tunes. When you hear these songs, you begin to understand why his influence on later rock and roll artists is so strong. The Reckless intensity he displays here on such classics as "Whole lotta shakin' goin' on","Breathless", and on such wild and quirky versions of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say", and the old Hank Williams favorite, "Jambalaya", is rarely heard anywhere else in his long and storied career. If you want to find out what all the fuss was about, this collection is a great place to start.

Carl Lee Perkins was an American rockabilly musician who recorded most notably at Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, beginning during 1954. According to Charlie Daniels, "Carl Perkins' songs personified the rockabilly era, and Carl Perkins' sound personifies the rockabilly sound more so than anybody involved in it, because he never changed". Perkins' songs were recorded by artists (and friends) as influential as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash, which further cemented his place in the history of popular music. Called "the King of Rockabilly", he was inducted into the Rock and Roll, the Rockabilly, and the Nashville Songwriters Halls of Fame; and was a Grammy Hall of Fame Award recipient.

Is there an early rock & roller who has a crazier reputation than the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis? His exploits as a piano-thumping, egocentric wild man with an unquenchable thirst for living have become the fodder for numerous biographies, film documentaries, and a full-length Hollywood movie.

Until Arista released The Definitive Collection in August 1999, 1988's Greatest Hits stood as the ultimate Air Supply compilation. It's easy to see why. Eleven of the group's big hits are here: "Lost in Love", "All Out of Love", "Every Woman in the World", "The One That You Love", "Here I Am", "Sweet Dreams", "Even the Nights Are Better", and "Making Love Out of Nothing at All". That's all that most Air Supply fans need, at least casual fans, but even the hardcore followers are sure to like having such a concentrated dose of hits in one package. Yes, The Definitive Collection remains more comprehensive, but for anyone who just wants the hits, with no excess fat, Greatest Hits is the right choice.

Sam Phillips didn't record anybody else the way he recorded Jerry Lee Lewis. With other artists, he pushed and prodded, taking his time to discover the qualities that made them uniquely human, but with Jerry Lee, he just turned the tape on and let the Killer rip. There was no need to sculpt because Lewis arrived at Sun Studios fully formed, ready to lean back and play anything that crossed his mind. Over the course of seven years, that's more or less how things were run at Sun: Lewis would sit at the piano and play, singing songs that were brought to him and songs that crossed his mind, and Sam never stopped rolling the tape.

When Jerry Lee Lewis was recording for Sun records it was his most prolific period in my opinion and this great box set containing 128 of his best recordings is simply stunning. One of the best box sets out there. Each of the four discs contains plenty of vintage rock 'n' roll as well as a few country songs, an even some gospel and rhythm & blues ditties thrown in for good measure. Of course, all of the big hits are included, as well as some rare gems that will have you coming back for more. Also remarkable is the attention to detail in the beautiful booklet, which includes several terrific photos and a very informative biography. Also there's a very insightful commentary, complete with recording dates of every song in the collection.
