This two-fer containing a pair of albums from the Funk/Pop singer, songwriter and bandleader. As soon as you hear the opening riff to the Jimmy Castor Bunch's 'It's Just Begun' you know you are in for one hell of a funky ride; often sampled but never bettered! Camden have packaged the 'It's Just Begun' album with the band's second album 'Phase Two' to give you that fantastic Funk experience. This package features the million selling single 'Troglodyte (Cave Man)' an absolute phenomenon of it's time, and the 'Phase Two' album features 'Say Leroy (The Creature from the Black Lagoon Is Your Father)' which was very much in the same vein as 'Troglodyte.' Both albums were originally released in 1972 and 'It's Just Begun' reached the Top 30 on the Billboard Pop Charts.

VA - Super Rare Disco Volume 1 & 2 (1997)
X Lossless Rip | FLAC (Tracks) +CUE, LOG | 0.99 GB | Covers Included
Genre: Disco, Soul, Funk | Label: Robbins Entertainment | Catalog Number: 76869-75005/6-2

As a title, Super Rare Disco was a stretch when this disc was released in 1997, and since then, it has only become more of a stretch. While there are no possible cases against Lyn Collins' "Rock Me Again and Again," Eddie Kendricks' "Date With the Rain," First Choice's "The Player," and the Jimmy Castor Bunch's "It's Just Begin" as dynamite disco singles, none of them have been particularly hard to locate since the mid-'90s. One case where the Robbins label deserves some thanks is the inclusion Four Below Zero's "My Baby's Got E.S.P.," a classic underground single helmed by Patrick Adams (who was also responsible for Inner Life's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," Musique's "In the Bush," Black Ivory's "Mainline," and about 50 other beloved dancefloor singles). No matter what, this is a fine disco compilation for those who want to dig beneath the surface of ubiquitous chart-toppers.

Trouble Man is a hard-driving blues-rock album, with more emphasis on the "rock" than Thackery's other releases. It slows down just long enough for the slightly dark "Lovin' You Right" and the jazzy "Anchor to a Drowning Man," arguably the best cut here. "Doin' 100" and the instrumental "Hang Up and Drive" have a strong Stevie Ray Vaughan sound. Thackery applies a steady, yet light-hearted and uptempo pace to William Harris' "Bullfrog," which has also been covered by the likes of Dave Hole and John Hammond. The K.C. Douglas cover "Mercury Blues" has been recorded by everyone from Steve Miller to Alan Jackson (remember the "Crazy 'bout a Ford truck" commercials?), but this is one of the best versions…
