With a 552-character title that dwarfs Fiona Apple's random stream of consciousness, When the Pawn…, Most of the Remixes… is the first official compilation of the various mash-ups and mixes from the Dewaele brothers produced under their more familiar guise of Soulwax. Like their 2 Many DJ's alias' series, As Heard on Radio Soulwax, the two-CD collection showcases their bootlegging sensibilities on 14 tracks which tackle artists as diverse as operatic prog rockers Muse (on the buzzing synths and crashing cymbals of "Muscle Museum"), Belgian-American, post-industrial outfit Lords of Acid (on a doom-laden techno re-working of "I Sit on Acid"), and Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue (on a scuzzy garage rock retooling of "Can't Get You Out of My Head"). Like most mixtapes, the standards vary.

After stunning the mainstream pop machine into a state of huffy, new school e-disbelief by beating out Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry for the 2011 Album of the year Grammy, Arcade Fire seemed poised for a U2-style international coup, but the Suburbs, despite its stadium-ready sonic grandiosity, was far too homespun and idiosyncratic to infect the masses in the same way as the Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby. Reflektor, the Montreal collective's much anticipated fourth long-player and first double-album, moves the group even further from pop culture sanctification with a seismic yet impenetrable 13-track set (at 75 minutes it’s one minute over standard single disc capacity) that guts the building but leaves the roof intact.

It may be fourty years since Neu! became the godfathers of Krautrock, but their influence is still going strong - at least that's what a new compilation hopes to prove. A plethora of stars have stepped up to the plate for a disc not of covers, but of songs influenced by the German legends - and that distinction is precisely what saves "Brand Neu!" from being just another generic celebration. These days every granny and her goldfish are dabbling in electro, but it wasn't so back in the 70s, when Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger split from Kraftwerk and started making some of the most exciting stuff to come out of Germany, well… ever. In doing so, they influenced Bowie, Radiohead and a lot of people in between…

After 10 years, 6 albums, and over 1,000 shows with Dropsonic, Dan Dixon decided it was time to re-invent the wheel he’d been spinning for so long. Though Dropsonic had done too many tours to count and had toured or played with bands ranging from The Strokes, Garbage, Archers of Loaf, And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, and whole host of others, it was all feeling decidedly… uninspiring. So, Dixon started writing songs for a new project that would become PLS PLS.

Hot Thoughts is the bravest, most sonically inventive work of Spoon’s career. With all due respect to earlier efforts that have made the quintet both critically acclaimed and a commercial contender, preconceptions about this band are about to be obliterated. That’s not to say Hot Thoughts doesn’t have a requisite supply of infectious earworms but there’s a lyrical bent that’s as carnal as it’s crafty, and a newfound sense of sonic exploration that results in the genresmasher Spoon have flirted with in the past but not fully consummated. Co-produced by Spoon and Dave Fridmann and reunited with Matador Records (third time’s the charm), let's acknowledge that Britt Daniel’s spot in the pantheon of rock’s genius songwriters was well established a ways back, but with the crackling, incandescent, multi-dimensional backdrop conjured on ‘Hot Thoughts’, the lines between accessible and experimental become non-factors for once and all. It’s pop as high art, delivered with total confidence and focus.

Sinkane music — every note of it — comes straight from a generosity of spirit, and never has that spirit been on more vivid display than on the new album LIFE & LIVIN’ IT. His breakthrough album was a futuristic funk record from Space, appropriately titled MARS, that dealt with feeling like an outsider living on another planet. With his second album, MEAN LOVE, he set out to find a place for himself. And with his new album, LIFE & LIVIN’ IT, he seemed to have found it.

Following the critically acclaimed self-titled debut that NME said “will enhance your life," Boxed In releases, “Jist” from the forthcoming album, Melt. Boxed In has garnered support from BBC Radio 1 and 6 and tastemaker LA radio station KCRW, who chose Boxed In as an “Artist You Should Know” for 2015. With comparisons to LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip, Boxed In is intellectual without being pretentious, wide-ranging yet accessible and will unite club and indie-rock crowds in a way so few can do.
