Miles Davis' album Live-Evil was originally released in 1971 by Columbia Records. The jazz album is a collection of songs from Davis' live performances spanning throughout 1970. Live-Evil was originally planned to be a follow up to Bitches Brew, however the idea was withdrawn after it became clear that the two albums had little to no semblance.

On the Corner is a studio album by jazz musician Miles Davis, recorded in June and July 1972 and released in 1974 on Columbia Records. Drawing on funk and rock music, the work of experimental composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, and electronic recording techniques, it was in part an attempt by Davis to reach a younger African American audience. Instead, it became one of his worst-selling recordings and was scorned by establishment jazz critics at the time of its release. It was also his last studio album of the 1970s; for the remainder of the decade he recorded haphazardly and focused instead on live performance before temporarily retiring from music in 1975.

Mary Frances Penick, better known as Skeeter Davis, was an American country music singer who sang crossover pop music songs. She started out as part of the Davis Sisters as a teenager in the late 1940s, eventually landing on RCA Victor. In the late 1950s, she became a solo star. One of the first women to achieve major stardom in the country music field as a solo vocalist, she was an acknowledged influence on Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton and was hailed as an "extraordinary country/pop singer" by The New York Times music critic Robert Palmer.

Cookin' With the Miles Davis Quintet is the first of four classic albums that emerged from two marathon and fruitful sessions recorded in 1956 (the other three discs released in Cookin's wake were Workin', Relaxin' and Steamin'). All the albums were recorded live in the studio, as Davis sought to capture, with Rudy Van Gelder's expert engineering, the sense of a club show · la the Café Bohemia in New York, with his new quintet, featuring tenor saxophonist John Coltrane. In Miles's own words, he says he called this album Cookin' because "that's what we did-came in and cooked." What's particularly significant about this Davis album is his first recording of what became a classic tune for him: "My Funny Valentine." Hot playing is also reserved for the uptempo number "Tune Up," which revs with the zoom of both the leader and Trane.

With each new release, the clothes of an old bluesman fit Guy Davis more and more comfortably. By now the blues are completely a part of who he is, so when he reworks an old Sleepy John Estes song into the opener, "Limetown," it feels completely natural; even with the familiar "Rollin' And Tumblin'" riff. He mixes it up well between covers and originals, taking in quite a range – there's John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, and Blind Lemon Jefferson all sitting amicably together in his style; as well as some pieces like "Step It Up And Go" that are just plain old. His own material is less familiar, of course, but just as good, with the careful (if not wholly accurate) patina of age about it.
