Yellow Series No.6107

The Mitsubishi A5M, the Japanese Imperial Navy's first metal monoplane fighter, was the creation of Jiro Horikoshi, father of the legendary A6M "Zero". Labelled "Claude" in the Allies' code, the A5M was a transitional fighter which marked in significant step in the development of the Japanese Navy's air force during the early 1930s. This book contains a full technical history of the aircraft and all its variants from its prototype development and test flights in 1935 to its production and introduction in the Second Sino-Japanese War from 1937 to 1940. It is illustrated with photographs, colour drawings and technical plans.

Violinist Irvine Arditti, pianist Claude Helffer, and the Spectrum ensemble conducted by Guy Protheroe produce consummate performances of the Greek avant-gardist's unwieldy chamber music. If you're familiar with Xenakis's career you'll know he was trained in mathematics and enjoyed a successful career as an architect. Such background might prepare you for the music's preoccupation with line, volume, and form in an unusually abstract way, but it won't prepare you for its visceral, almost primitive power. On Akanthos, the singer Penelope Walmsley-Clark must cope with what is surely one of the most ridiculous soprano parts ever written.

A kind of chamber jazz with voice, on texts by Agota Kristof adapted by Christine Roillet. The voice speaks of life in its happy or anguished forms: to love, to dream, to die. Geraldine Keller says, professes, speaks, sings and overflows to the limits of the vocal improvisation. Plurality of themes, sometimes recurring, between melancholic waltz and languorous vertigo, expressionist effects of progressive rock and atonal lines. Sometimes I dream that I hear an echo of "Cinq Hops", by Jacques Thollot, in 1978 (which is not to displease me!). The whole is deployed in the form of a suite where the soloists, in turn, are offered a field of expression. Many contrasts, often more nuanced than abrupt.

The radio show C’est si Bon, led by Claude Saucier on ICI Musique, was born in the winter of 2012. Quickly, this musical event has become a must rendez-vous. This first album is an extension of the show where hits from 1930 to 1970 are happily revisited. Whether through the swing music of the big bands, the music of Broadway and American cinema industry, or crooners’ epic voices and pop and jazz divas of that time, Claude Saucier will transport you with the most beautiful music of our memories.
