In fact this was recorded in September 1975, so technically this is the band's first album. It was supposed to be released in 1976, but the label refused to release it and it got shelved. The album was eventually released in 1979 to cash in on the band's success

Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, Aftershock - Motorhead's 21st studio album, it is a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything Motorhead stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see Motorhead in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that Motorhead is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

The multi-talented performer parlayed his stunning guitar skills into a vaunted reputation as one of the hottest blues axemen on the West Coast during the 1950s. He was listed as Young John Watson when he signed with Federal in 1953. His first sides for the King subsidiary found him still tinkling the ivories, but by 1954, when he dreamed up the absolutely astonishing instrumental "Space Guitar," the youth had switched over to guitar. "Space Guitar" ranks with the greatest achievements of its era – Watson's blistering rapid-fire attack, done without the aid of a pick, presages futuristic effects that rock guitarists still hadn't mastered another 15 years down the line.

The soundtrack to Frank Zappa's strange early-'70s film 200 Motels was always doomed to be a peripheral entry in his discography. The movie's story was not easy to follow, and neither is the record (not that plot was ever a big focus of the production). It's typically wacky Zappa of the era, with unpredictable sharp turns between crunchy rock bombast, orchestration, and jazz/classical influences, as well as interjections of wacky spoken dialogue. Those who like his late-'60s/early-'70s work – not as song-oriented as his first albums, in other words, but not as "serious" or as silly as his later records – will probably like this fine, although it's not up to the level of Uncle Meat.

Unique material: A different edit of "Dickie's Such an Asshole", and a different recording of the last part of "Cosmik Debris". When the Stage series took off, Zappa made an album with sample songs, which looked just like Volume 1, but it said "SAMPLER" instead of "VOLUME 1" on the cover. Frank Zappa designed his six-volume series of live albums You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore with the CD in mind; each volume was a two-CD set, and each disc ran an hour or so. But the CD was still an emerging format in the late '80s, so he also compiled this 81-minute sampler, released only on cassette and as a double-LP set, concurrently with the first volume in 1988. It gives a good sense of the series as a whole.

Extreme headbangability! Their out-of-print mini-album nearly a decade old now re-issued on LP with improved artwork and layout. This is stripped down, old-school evil thrash with a dash of traditional heavy metal. There are no progressive tendencies or any extreme technicality here, only a palpable, raw passion for playing speedy, simple, and above all else catchy blackened thrash! Undeniably infectious, you WILL be humming these riffs after only a couple spins. Look no further if you are searching for the same feeling as in the early work of: Destruction, Kreator, Assassin, Motorhead, Sodom, Metallica ("Kill 'Em All" era).
