Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Let Love In, 1994 (Mute records) re-upload

Keeping the same line-up from Henry's Dream, Nick Cave and company turn in yet another winner with Let Love In. Compared to Henry's Dream, Let Love In is something of a more produced effort – longtime Cave boardsman Tony Cohen oversees things, and from the first track, one can hear the subtle arrangements and carefully constructed performances. Love, unsurprisingly, takes center stage of the album. Besides concluding with a second part to "Do You Love Me?," two of its stronger cuts are the (almost) title track "I Let Love In," and "Loverman," an even creepier depiction of lust's throttling power so gripping that Metallica ended up covering it…

The intervening years have, of course, been full of activity and dozens of releases including 4 solo albums and several albums as a member of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and in collaboration with PJ Harvey.

A superb album from Ray Lynam, a popular figure on the Irish and UK country scene. This is his first studio album in 30 years. As the title suggests Then & Now is a collection of some of his most popular songs as well as some recent ones. "The songs on this CD are all of top shelf standard, it's an album that breathes new life into songs that were old hits while it has some interesting twists too. All in all it should be enjoyable for fans old and new of Ray Lynam and the Hillbillies. Similar to the songs and the band, the fans are ageless too- and that includes you!" - Tom Gilmore, Journalist & Broadcaster.

The Klezmatics - Possessed (1997)  Music

The Klezmatics - Possessed (1997)
MP3 (CBR 320 kbps) | 53:15 | 130 MB
Genre: Klezmer, Folk | Label: Xenophile Records

Much of Possessed is a collaboration with Tony Kushner (the Pulitzer- and Tony-winning playwright of Angels in America). He contributes lyrics to two songs, and the second half of the album was designed as a musical score for his play A Dybbuk: Between Two Worlds (an adaptation of Jewish folk tales by S. An-ski). The marriage of artistic sensibilities is perfect. The Klezmatics' ethos is at once deeply traditional and deeply progressive. Their music is a lively engagement with Jewishness itself, inflecting Eastern European klezmer music with other genres so seamlessly that it seems misleading even to name the other influences (classical, Dixieland, bebop, Middle Eastern folk, modern rock…). Their song catalog includes religious traditionals, but it also includes original Hebraic odes to marijuana and homosexuality. All of which is very much in line with Kushner's endless quest to sort out his own disparate influences as a gay, Jewish, democratic-socialist, Louisiana-born, New York-adopted artiste.

Miles Davis' concert of February 12, 1964, was originally divided into two LPs, with all of the ballads put on My Funny Valentine. These five lengthy tracks (which include "All of You," "Stella by Starlight," "All Blues," "I Thought About You," and the title cut) put the emphasis on the lyricism of Davis, along with some strong statements from tenor saxophonist George Coleman and freer moments from the young rhythm section of pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams.

Mahal's stint with Warner Bros. was not among his most artistically productive, documenting an era in which he become preoccupied with fusing his brand of blues with Caribbean rhythms and steel drums. This double-CD set contains the entirety of three 1976-1978 LPs for the label, in addition to some unreleased material. Those three LPs – 1976's Music Fuh Ya (Musica Para Tu), 1978's Evolution (The Most Recent), and the 1977 soundtrack to the little-known film Brothers – form most of what's on this compilation. There's a sameness to Mahal's easygoing blues-on-the-beach approach, and a sometimes irritating reliance on Caribbean steel drums for color, that wears down the listener's attention span in such a large dose.

Label: Tendril Tales | Release Year: 2016

First album of new material in seven years from Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval. Includes Let Me Get There duet with Kurt Vile. Hope has recently recorded the vocal for The Spoils with Massive Attack. It was a total honour to sing along to a beautifully hypnotic soul groove with heavyweights like Hope, Colm, and all the other top notch musos. To respond to Hope’s call in song of letting her get there felt right and real and gave me chills while singing, even though I knew they already got there years before I walked in the building.

When it came to belting out R&B and Jump Blues, the men didn’t always have it their own way. As I’M A BAD, BAD GIRL proves, there were any number of raucous chanteuses ready, willing & able to make their presence felt. These women were strong, independent and sassy, and knew precisely what they wanted. Most of the time it was for their man to be either under their thumb, or atop their bed and they made no bones about it! This is predominantly rootin’, tootin’, bootin’ stuff, with the brass sounding, the horns wailing, and the guitarist getting just the occasional look-in. But to add shade to this comprehensive 3-CD set, there are cooler sides from singers like Betty Hall Jones, Ella Mae Morse and Myra Taylor, and Gospel, from Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Faye Adams. Every important Lady singer of the era is included, ranging from the well-known - e.g. Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Ruth Brown, ‘Little’ Esther Phillips, LaVern Baker, Big Maybelle - to names familiar, perhaps, primarily to specialist collectors - e.g. Little Sylvia, Fluffy Hunter, Pearl Traylor, Tiny Davis, Zilla.
