Punk rock's poet laureate Patti Smith ranks among the most influential female rock & rollers of all time. Ambitious, unconventional, and challenging, Smith's music was hailed as the most exciting fusion of rock and poetry since Bob Dylan's heyday. If that hybrid remained distinctly uncommercial for much of her career, it wasn't a statement against accessibility so much as the simple fact that Smith followed her own muse wherever it took her – from structured rock songs to free-form experimentalism, or even completely out of music at times.

Bella Union announce 'Killer Road', a collaborative project between Soundwalk Collective, Patti Smith and Jesse Paris Smith. A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of crickets, makes way for the unmistakeable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning, ominously, "The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night." 'Killer Road' is a deep, dark, illuminating and meditative journey into mortality and motion, into fear and doubt and, eventually, death.

Patti Smith - M Train
English | Knopf | 2015 | ISBN: 1101875100 | 272 pages | EPUB/MOBI | 20/20 MB

M Train begins in the tiny Greenwich Village café where Smith goes every morning for black coffee, ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was, and writes in her notebook. Through prose that shifts fluidly between dreams and reality, past and present, and across a landscape of creative aspirations and inspirations, we travel to Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul in Mexico; to a meeting of an Arctic explorer’s society in Berlin; to a ramshackle seaside bungalow in New York’s Far Rockaway that Smith acquires just before Hurricane Sandy hits; and to the graves of Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima. Woven throughout are reflections on the writer’s craft and on artistic creation. Here, too, are singular memories of Smith’s life in Michigan and the irremediable loss of her husband, Fred Sonic Smith.

By the way, in case you haven’t noticed, Patti Smith has never sounded better. She was always amazing live, but here she´s in top form. Check out the awesome noir guitar from Patti’s son Jackson. And you can hear Patti reading from William S. Burroughs book “The Wild Boys”. This is the lyrical side of Patti Smith and this a wonderful side of her. It must be a magic night and hear you can hear some tracks from this evening. This CD is private edition by Patti Smith and was sold during their gigs in Germany. I guess this is the first official live album from Patti Smth ever and and it´s a brilliant one.

After the success of Horses, Patti Smith had something to prove to reviewers and to the industry, and Radio Ethiopia aimed at both. Producer Jack Douglas gave "the Patti Smith Group," as it was now billed, a hard rock sound, notably on the side-opening "Ask the Angels" and "Pumping (My Heart)," songs that seemed aimed at album-oriented rock radio.
