Capturing a concert held at London's Hammersmith Apollo in March of 2011, several months prior to the release of his re-interpretive record New Blood, the double-disc Live Blood sounds very similar to the subsequent LP and its 2010 predecessor Scratch My Back…as well it should, as all the performances are based on the same austere arrangements.

New Blood is a continuum of Peter’s previous album, Scratch My Back, a song-swap project where he covered the songs of others, all to an orchestral backing. “He really liked what he was discovering,” explains his engineer Richard ‘Dickie’ Chappell. “As soon as we started do the covers, there was talk of applying it to his own songs. It was always an ongoing thought”. The album has been created specifically for Society Of Sound members.

Filmed at Hammersmith Apollo in March of this year, New Blood Live In London captures Peter Gabriel performing live with the 46 piece New Blood Orchestra. The repertoire mixes cover versions from his Scratch My Back album with classic tracks from across his solo career in brand new orchestral arrangements. Gabriel is a renowned live performer and his onstage charisma and instantly recognisable voice combine brilliantly with the orchestral sound palette to breathe a new sense of wonder into familiar songs. As you would expect the concert is also a visual feast, with graphics, animation and imagery blending to enhance and illustrate the music. This is truly a live experience not to be missed.

New Blood is the forthcoming ninth studio album by British rock musician Peter Gabriel, to be released on October 10, 2011. The album will consist of orchestral re-recordings of various tracks from throughout Gabriel's career. The album is going to be a continuation of the project Gabriel began with his previous album Scratch My Back, which was orchestral covers of other artists' songs. The idea for the album came about after work was done re-arranging Gabriel's songs for orchestra for the second half of shows during the New Blood Tour (2010.) For this album Gabriel will continue to work with arranger John Metcalfe.
