Randy (born Veronica Crawford) is a brilliant American soul singer who had a UK top five hit (Street life) as un-credited vocalist with the Crusaders in 1973, then had two UK top five hits (One day I'll fly away, Almaz) in the eighties as a solo singer. Randy never achieved this level of success in her homeland. Apart from those three major hits, Randy had two other UK top twenty hits (You might need somebody, Rainy night in Georgia) and several minor hits, three of which (Imagine, Secret combination, One hello) are included here. Most of the songs here are originals but, with her outstanding voice, Randy is a great interpreter of other people's songs, as this collection shows. This collection truly is the very best of Randy Crawford, one of the finest soul singers there has ever been.

Memorably reinterpreted after ten years after the fact as Vanilla Ices breakout single Ice Ice Baby, Under Pressure found two contemporaries David Bowie and Queen collaborating for the first and only time on a great one-off single. Led by the vocalist Mick Hucknall, the English blue-eyed soul band Simply Red became international stars with their debut album, Picture Book. Wielding a rich, deep voice, Rick Astley became an overnight sensation in the late 80s with his well-crafted dance-pop.

Step on over to AOR City, and discover some great music you might have missed otherwise – in this fantastic 3CD collection of AOR gems from the 70s and 80s – one that mixes familiar tunes with some real overlooked gems! The collection was put together in conjunction with the fantastic AOR City series of reissues – and features key tracks from those titles and other smooth, sublime pop cuts from the same 70s stretch – the kind of work that might have hit the radio at the time, but which often got lost to the shifting sands of time. Some artists are ones you might know from other work in rock and soul – others are artists who only got a brief chance to reach for the brass ring – getting strong studio help and top-level production that makes them fit right in with the hits here.

An excellent budget compilation of the wonderful Bethlehem Records label - what a roster of artists they had. Very good sound too. The Bethlehem label focused on jazz releases, and this set collects some great examples of jazz–vocally and instrumentally–between the years 1958-62. One look at the artists on this 60 track 2 CD set shows how many fine artists released music on the label. Like other collections from One Day Music, there's no booklet, only a short paragraph about the label and a few of the featured artists. The digitally remastered sound is good overall within the limits of recording styles of the era.

One of the most readily identifiable voices of any contemporary female vocalist, Randy Crawford's initial recognition came from her fiery vocal on "Street Life," a 1979 song matching her with the Crusaders that was included on the soundtrack for Burt Reynolds' film Sharky's Machine. Crawford was born in Macon, Georgia, and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio; she worked in clubs as a teen, accompanied by her father. Crawford was lead vocalist in a group that included bassist Bootsy Collins before touring as George Benson's opening act in 1972. Cannonball Adderley invited her to sing on his LP Big Man. Crawford recorded "Don't Get Caught in Love's Triangle," a song produced by Johnny Bristol, during a short stay on the label. She soon moved to Warner Bros., and after "Street Life," recorded and toured Europe with the Crusaders. Crawford was tabbed Most Outstanding Performer at the 1980 Tokyo Music Festival. She remained with Warner Bros. through the '80s and early '90s, during which time she developed a strong following in Europe and Britain. In the new millennium, Crawford has remained quite active, often re-teaming with Crusaders keyboardist Joe Sample for such albums as 2006's Feeling Good, 2008's No Regrets, and 2012's concert album Live.

This gentle, simple drama is directed by Yugoslavian Kreso Golick, who afterwards became a professor of film direction at Zagreb's Academy of Theatre, Film and Television. It is told entirely from the point of view of a couple's six-year-old son. At a picnic, the family makes the acquaintance of a flashy character who seems to be making eyes at the boy's mother. His father arranges for their new acquaintance to marry the boy's aunt, and that marriage takes place even though they discover that he is not a rich American. Even by the end of the film, however, it seems to the boy that their picnic acquaintance is still trying to charm his mother.

Another strong album for Randy Crawford; the song "Imagine" remains one of the best R&B covers/versions around, while "One Hello" did well in Europe and made it to the charts, as did "Imagine," although it broke later in America. Crawford sang with consistency and character on every number.
