As 2009 was heading to a close, Oli, Steve and Iain had left Serpico, the band that brought them together, and turned their thoughts to a handful of riffs and ideas that they had been working on.By the spring of 2010, after several attempts at finding the right drummer, Dave was asked to "help out" on drums for the band's first demo (Steve and Dave had been in a band together a few years previously called Read it and Weep). The resulting self recorded 4 song demo was released, and by the time the first gig came in January 2011, the demo had been ordered from all corners of the UK and even abroad. The first full length A Ritual Spirit L.P. is almost here, 'Carnival Carnivorous' will be out soon via Oli and Steve's label Disposable Noise. These are the songs the band wanted to write, they followed no mould or trend and emerged with an album they are proud of. Ask any of them what it sounds like, and they will say it sounds like A RITUAL SPIRIT.
Sacred Spirit is a musical project by Claus Zundel, Ralf Hamm and Markus Staab. The music is of electronic, new age, world and ambient genres. Sacred Spirit's total worldwide album sales estimated to be over 15 million copies. For each album sold, a donation was made to the Native American Rights Fund, the non-profit Native American organization devoting all its time to restoring the legal rights of the native American people.
"…The quality of the music is relatively good, though there are now more authentic pieces on the market, of course. Still, despite tiny bits of forgivable cultural ignorance, the album is a worthwhile soundbite into Kenyan traditional music."
Avulsed release the 6th full-length in the band's career, which will be called "Ritual Zombi," which will be a conceptual work dealing with zombies. Xtreem Music comments on the pending release:"The album will contain 9 new songs plus a cover song of Death's 'Zombie Ritual' as a tribute to the band that started it all for the real Death Metal sound (with permission from Possessed, of course!!). There will be also three instrumental songs (intro, interlude & outro) and this will be the first recording featuring new drummer Osckar Bravo."'Ritual Zombi' promises to be the strongest album of the band, gathering all elements that made Avulsed's style over two decades, a respected force with thousands of diehard fans around the world, which for sure won't be disappointed with this new work, that will be another step in the band's fight to keep the true spirit of Death Metal, free of clichés, labels & trends, staying loyal to what the band has been playing since day one back in 1991, which is: DEATH METAL.
"Gemeaux" (1971-1986) is one of Takemitsu's grandest works in terms of musical arc, scoring and length of gestation. It is written for two orchestras with two conductors, and with solo trombone at one orchestra and solo oboe at the other. As half of it was written during Takemitsu's "modernist apogee" of the turn of the '70s, we find a host of extended techniques, and at one point the soloists even speak through the mouthpieces of their instruments. As the other half of the work belongs to Takemitsu's late period, we find a successful of elegant self-contained gestures, his musical "gardens". The synthesis of two creative periods, however, makes for a piece singular in its impact in Takemitsu's oeuvre.
The Light of the Spirit is one of Kitaro's best CDs. Perhaps it is because Mickey Hart co-produced, or perhaps Kitaro asked Hart to co-produce because it is so good. It doesn't really matter if either of those is the reason; this is just an awesome CD. Kitaro's specialty has always been the symphonic synth and this is no exception. He augments that synth with several guest musicians on a variety of ambient instruments. This is truly ambient music, albeit on the new age side of that style. The vocal accompaniment by Lynn Ray and Jeannie Tracy counts as instrumental as well. The sound design treats the wordless vocals as an extra sound to incorporate. David Jenkins contributes a smoking electric guitar that gives this rock & roll textures as well. This disc stands proudly with work by Constance Demby, Vangelis, Suzanne Ciani, and Dean Evenson as some of the best adult contemporary instrumental new age music.
Legend is a band that sounds like nothing else out there. Seriously. I can't think of even one band. They've been making music for over 20 years now, and they are still relevant. That is something that most bands cannot boast, especially neo-prog bands. Therefore, Legend's new album "Spirit" is great experience through and through.
Where to start? Well, Legend are a female-fronted prog rock band. Beck Sian, the vocalist, has a beautiful voice that borders on theatrical, but she never gets pretentiously long- winded. In fact, she has a huge range, and has a sweet spot for beautiful, melodious sustains. I quite love her voice.
