The preceding years have been extraordinary for Ryley Walker. In March, his second album, Primrose Green, emerged to critical hosannas from the likes of NPR, Village Voice, Uncut, and Mojo - in the process, earning admiration of musicians who had chalked up no shortage of turntable miles in Walker's life. Robert Plant declared himself a fan - as did double-bass legend Danny Thompson, with whom Ryley would later embark on a British tour.

Chicago-based songwriter Ryley Walker makes music that feels like it’s from another time: earthy, pastoral, and gorgeous ’60s-inspired folk a la Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, and John Fahey. On March 31st, he’ll release his sophomore album, Primrose Green, via his new label Dead Oceans, an LP that features a backing band of “both jaded veterans of the post-rock and jazz mini-circuits together with a few eager, open-eared youths.”

An Eclectic Collection of Fiction That Inspired Film
Memento, All About Eve, Rear Window, Rashomon, and 2001: A Space Odyssey are all well-known and much-loved movies, but what is perhaps a lesser-known fact is that all of them began their lives as short stories. Adaptations gathers together 35 pieces that have been the basis for films, many from giants of American literature (Hemingway, Fitzgerald) and many that have not been in print for decades (the stories that inspired Bringing Up Baby, Meet John Doe, and All About Eve).

Everyone is familiar with the dodo and the wooly mammoth, but how many people have heard of the scimitar cat and the Falkland Island fox? Extinct Animals portrays over 60 remarkable animals that have been lost forever during the relatively recent geological past. Each entry provides a concise discussion of the history of the animal – how and where it lived, and how it became extinct – as well as the scientific discovery and analysis of the creature.

Rebecca Kilgore & Hal Smith's Rhythm Makers - Sings The Music Of Fats Waller (2016)
MP3 320 kbps CBR | 01:04:36 | 151 MB
Genre: Vocal Jazz | Label: Audiophile Records

Out of the West Coast traditional jazz (often erroneously referred to as Dixieland) mold of Lu Watters, Turk Murphy, and the Firehouse Five Plus Two comes the Hal Smith Rhythmakers with guest, the undervalued but very talented singer Rebecca Kilgore. She also works a little on guitar. The regular Rhythmakers have also been expanded with the addition of three young musicians, to wit, trumpet player Marc Caparone, bass player Clint Baker, and pianist Chris Dawson. Together they have fashioned an album of Fats Waller melodies ranging from the infectious swinging material he was famous for as well as some very pretty melodies, most, but not all, penned with Andy Razaf.

This is a totally unique recording featuring very rare studio demos! Taken from the soundboard during the Golden Heart sessions sometime 1994/95. Includes five very good unreleased songs. Song number 10 is very very nice, but not written by Mark Knopfler unfortunately. The sound quality is good. Also featured on this official bootleg are 5 songs from the Hamburg 2001 radio broadcast, also in very good sound quality.

An extension of the popular Original Jazz Classics series (est. 1982), the new OJC Remasters releases reveal the sonic benefits of 24-bit remastering-a technology that didn't exist when these titles were originally issued on compact disc. The addition of newly-written liner notes further enhances the illuminating quality of the OJC Remasters reissues. "Each of the recordings in this series is an all-time jazz classic," says Nick Phillips, Vice President of Jazz and Catalog A&R at Concord Music Group and producer of the series.
