Santana - Festival (1977) {Columbia}

Santana's follow-up to its comeback album, Amigos, was another David Rubinson-produced effort that moved back toward more of a Latin rock feel, although it retained an essentially pop focus — "The River" was the first real vocal ballad on a Santana album. If any doubt still existed that the group was no longer a band of equals but a platform for its lead guitarist, the current lineup dispelled that; Carlos Santana was now the only original member of the band left. Although the album went gold, the lack of a hit single hurt the album's commercial standing; its number 27 peak was the lowest yet for a Santana band album.

Live! is a 1972 live album by Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles. It was recorded on New Year's Day in 1972 inside of a dormant volcano, Diamond Head in Honolulu as part of a music festival. The performance was not Santana the band but Carlos Santana with a few members of Santana and some friends from the Bay Area (Neal Schon, Coke Escovedo, Gregg Errico, and Michael Carabello) plus drummer/singer Buddy Miles, simply having a vacation and taking a break. Consider this Santana's crossroad before entering his jazz fusion phase. This Legacy Columbia CD was released on 6 September, 1994.

Santana is the eponymous debut album by the latin rock band Santana. Consisting largely of instrumental music, the album was highly anticipated following the band's performance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. At the time of its recording, Santana was a free-form jam band, but would later change their style to include more conventional songwriting. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 pop albums chart and featured the hit singles "Jingo" and "Evil Ways". In 2003, Santana was ranked #149 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Santana is the debut studio album by the San Francisco rock group Santana released in 1969. It is a release of largely instrumental music, recorded by what was originally a purely free-form jam band. At the suggestion of manager Bill Graham, the band took to writing more conventional songs for more impact, but managed to retain the essence of improvisation in the music.
The album was destined to be a major release, given a headstart by the band's seminal performance at the Woodstock Festival earlier that August. Although "Jingo" failed to create much interest when released as a single, "Evil Ways", the second single taken from the album, was a U.S. Top 10 hit. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 pop album chart.

Blues / Blues Rock

On a magical night in Montreux in 2004, Carlos Santana invited three of his favorite bluesmen: Buddy Guy, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and Bobby Parker for a concert of outstanding blues music. Each artist performed a full length concert and was joined on stage by Carlos Santana and other guests including Nile Rodgers and Barbara Morrison. July 12, 2004 was a very special night at the Montreux Festival for any blues fan. With Carlos Santana as musical director (and special guest guitarist), three musical legends took to the stage. Each one delivered a full concert set packed with some of the finest blues guitar playing you'll ever hear. Bobby Parker, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, and Buddy Guy are all headline acts in their own right, so it was a real coup to get them on one lineup. Throw in the guest appearances by Carlos Santana and Chic maestro Nile Rodgers, and blues heaven is complete!
