A year after his impressionistic, critically-lauded ECM debut Into The Silence, trumpeter Avishai Cohen s Cross My Palm With Silver introduces a program of new pieces which put the focus on the ensemble, on teamwork, with a quartet of the highest caliber. The adroit, almost telepathic interplay among the musicians allows Avishai Cohen to soar, making it clear why he is one of the most talked-about jazz musicians on the contemporary scene.

One listen to Lisa Gerrard's The Silver Tree (originally available only digitally, then as an Australia-only import, and finally, as a U.S. release) is enough to convince anybody – who isn't already convinced – that there's a very specific reason she has been courted by directors to compose soundtracks. There are 13 tracks here full of wispy ambient soundscapes, on top of which the former Dead Can Dance vocalist places her almost otherworldly gift of a voice. Sung nearly as prayers or meditative mantras, Gerrard employs monosyllabic glimpses of other languages – and occasionally English – to create her own tapestry of dreams. Some may be tempted to call this "new age" music, but it's so much more melancholy than much of what passes for that trash, and it's nearly sacred in its approach to articulation, creating the feeling in places ("Come Tenderness," "The Sea Whisperer," and "Abwoon," to name a few) that she is actually singing inside a cathedral. In other places, such as "Wandering Star" and "Serenity," her voice offers a drone approach that is as subtle – yet powerful – as her instrumentation.

Goldfrapp follow up 2013’s Top 5 album ‘Tales of Us’ with the deep, dark and electronic musical palette of ‘Silver Eye’, their brand new studio album, made, for the first time, with an eclectic collection of collaborators. John Congleton, Grammy-winning producer of St. Vincent, John Grant and Wild Beasts, electronic composer Bobby Krlic, aka The Haxan Cloak and mix engineer David Wrench (The XX, Caribou, fka Twigs) have helped create an album of stomping underground electronica, sensual ethereal melodies and metal machine pop, that is undeniably Goldfrapp. A passionate and increasingly in-demand photographer, Alison art directed and shot all the images for the album cover and the publicity campaign.

The band formed in the middle of punk's '77 explosion, but quickly began seeking out new, hitherto unexplored space. Vastly influential, Wire's myriad adventures remain entirely inspiring, even after all this time. Toasting their 40th anniversary, the band will release new album 'Silver/Lead' through their own pinkflag label. As a preview Wire have shared new cut 'Short Elevated Period', and it's a deft fusion of the band's pop / Brutalist sides, a mixture of old and new that unsettles and provokes.

Michael Nesmith - Silver Moon (2002) [Audiophile SBM Gold Disc]  Music

Although the cover art might suggest that this compiles, features, or in some way includes material from Michael Nesmith's four-year (1966-1970) tenure as a Monkee, this isn't the case at all. Additionally confusing matters is that the same 25 tracks on this collection are replicated – right down to the exact running order – on the unimaginatively titled Best Of: Original Hits. Regardless, the contents of both have been culled from Nesmith's first half-dozen post-Monkees long-players. The tune stack is well represented by the First National Band LPs Magnetic South (1970), Loose Salute (1970), and Nevada Fighter (1971) – plus, to a much lesser extent, Tantamount to Treason (1972), And the Hits Just Keep on Comin' (1972), as well as Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash (1973). Nesmith's penchant for penning quirky country & western-flavored pop songs can be directly traced back to his Monkees material, such as "St. Matthew," "Good Clean Fun," and "Magnolia Simms." During this period he was also woodshedding material for future endeavors.

There's immediate comfort in encountering Audrey Silver's music for the first time. Her voice is an open invitation, an instrument of confession and creation that immediately transports you to someplace else. That's evident from her first utterances through her last words on Very Early. In putting together this program, Silver thought long and hard about song selection. It shows, both in the eclectic playlist she created and through the unique arrangements born of her thoughts and Steven Santoro's clever pen. Everything from overdone Broadway favorites to original material to jazz standards sounds fresh in these interpretations.

In terms of harmony nobody can compete Waters. You can hear it on the starter Dreaming Of You. He even skillfully integrates improvisations. Perfect is also his way of overdubbing, which he often love to use in the field of bridges. On A Mission is a good example. Inimitable are his ballads like Stay Together, on which his silky voice starts sounding in addition to the saxophone. Slack and easy it goes on Go-Go Smooth. This character is supported by the shuffle beat. Anything You Need features Kim Water's wife Dana Pope, who has already been involved in several of his projects. A true vocal enrichment. If everything is in the right place as on Cruising Round Rock, you should just sit back and enjoy it. John Legend's tender ballad All Of Me is implemented in all excellence by Waters. A good reminder to buy Legend's wonderful album. The highly talented and gorgeous vocalist Zendaya shines on Fireflies spellbinding the audience with her outstanding voice. With Let's Make Love Waters endows the lovers with a dreamy affectionate ballad.
