A gripping story of the plight of a desperate group of jewish refugees who leave Romania to escape a brutal regime but end up facing an even worse fate. Despite being a true story, the tragic events unfold in a way that makes it compulsive reading. The factual information has been meticulously unearthed and the juxtoposition of wartime events with a latterday attempt by a family member to find out more about his lost relatives is a technique which keeps the reader enthralled. Personal focus on individual victims, especially David Stoliar, the sole survivor of the disaster make this story all the more moving. I highly recommend this book.

Russian-European Relations in the Balkans and Black Sea Region: Great Power Identity and the Idea of Europe By Vsevolod Samokhvalov
English | PDF | 2017 | 296 Pages | ISBN : 3319520776 | 11.5 MB

This book provides a detailed analysis of Russia’s ‘great power identity’ and the role of Europe in forming this identity. ‘Great power identity’ implies an expansionist foreign policy, and yet this does not explain all the complexities of the Russian state. For instance, it cannot explain why Russia decided to take over Crimea, but provided only limited support to break-away regions in Eastern Ukraine.

The Making of a Black Scholar: From Georgia to the Ivy League (Singular Lives) by Horace A. Porter
English | Jan. 29, 2003 | ISBN: 0877458359 | 173 Pages | PDF | 1 MB

This captivating and illuminating book is a memoir of a young black man moving from rural Georgia to life as a student and teacher in the Ivy League as well as a history of the changes in American education that developed in response to the civil rights movement, the war in Vietnam, and affirmative action. Born in 1950, Horace Porter starts out in rural Georgia in a house that has neither electricity nor running water.
