This 1970 session from Oscar Peterson and his trio is considered one of the high points of the pianist's career. Accompanied by Sam Jones on double bass and Bobby Durham on drums, Peterson delves into the world of bossa nova on tracks such as Triste by Antônio Carlos Jobim. The majority of the tunes here are standards but there is one Peterson original number entitled Nightingale.

Madrid-born tenor saxophonist and flautist Javier Vercher began his musical studies at an early age, under the direction of his father, himself a talented musician. Javier attended Berklee College in Boston, where he studied with Frank Tiberi, George Garzone, Greg Hopkins, David Johnson and Andy McGuee and learned directly from such figures as Mark Turner, Jerry Bergonzi, Steve Lacy, Mike Stern, Curtis Fuller and Bob Mintzer and on leaving Berklee began playing in drummer Bob Moses' band.

Verve 60th Anniversary Rare Albums SHM-CD Reissue Series. Reissue with SHM-CD format. Two different sides of Verve Records in the 50s – one modern, one a bit more traditional – and both represented in live material from the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957! Side one features a stunning live performance from pianist Teddy Wilson – working in a tight trio with Milt Hinton on bass and Spec Powell on drums – and really blowing away any conceptions we might have had about Wilson being aging or flowery at the time. Instead, he's got a sharp edge and command of the keys that's amazing – and which almost seems to have a bit more bite than usual in this concert setting.

This matchup between pianist Oscar Peterson, bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and drummer Louis Hayes directly precedes Peterson's recordings for Pablo. The pianist is in typically brilliant form on this recording, performing six standards (including 'Soft Winds' and 'On the Trail') along with his own 'Wheatland.' It is not too surprising that Peterson would want to record frequently with Pedersen in future years.

This 1970 Oscar Peterson session of cover songs features trio members George Mraz on double bass and Ray Price on drums. The album is Peterson's salute to the great songwriters like Cole Porter, represented here by two songs, as well as Michel Legrand, Johnny Mercer, Sammy Cahn and Rodgers and Hart.

Good '70 session from pianist Oscar Peterson, arguably the most recorded mainstream stylist ever. He's made so many albums over the years, with a great deal sounding similar, that while they're never bad, sometimes they're for keyboard freaks only. That's something of the case here, although Peterson spins some fabulous solos.

Masterful piano playing meets elaborate vocal harmonies on this legendary 1971 release that teams up Oscar Peterson and his trio with jazz vocal group The Singers Unlimited. Peterson's trio mates on this session, bassist George Mraz and drummer Louis Hayes, feed off the languages of the two musical poles, whether in the swinging give and take of the opener, Sesame Street, or in the switch from the reverential choir intro to Peterson’s sparkling play on It Never Entered My Mind. It’s the same with the dreamy arrangement of The Shadow of Your Smile; in his role as delicate accompanist, Peterson narrows it down to the essentials. Two Brazilian excursions are highlighted: Antônio Carlos Jobim’s Children’s Game and Luis Bonfá‘s The Gentle Rain.
