The year 1979 saw an epidemic of American street-gang films, including Philip Kaufman's hit period drama The Wanderers. Set in the Bronx in 1963, the film concerns the titular gang of Italian-American teens and their ongoing power struggle with the rival "Fordham Baldies." Richard Price, upon whose novel this film was based, drew from his own experiences to weave his tale. Essentially a series of anecdotes-some tension-filled, some amusing – The Wanderers climaxes on the occasion of the J.F.K. assassination, which for Price and hundreds and thousands of his aimless contemporaries served as a wake-up call. Viewed from the vantage point of the 1990s, one would wish that the current street gangs be shocked into adulthood with such suddenness (though not through the same tragic means). Ken Wahl, Karen Allen, and Linda Manz are among the standout performers in this richly detailed period piece.

Lindisfarne barely command more than a footnote in most rock reference books. During the early '70s, however, Lindisfarne were one of the hottest folk-based rock bands in England, with chart placements on two of their albums that rivaled Jethro Tull, and had them proclaimed one of the most important groups of the decade…

2009 digitally remastered two-fer from the Jazz Fusion great featuring the 1979 album A Song For The Children joined by the classic Exotic Mysteries album which features 'Space Princess', a Lonnie Liston Smith masterpiece. A Song For The Children features seven Jazz fusion masterpieces including the title track which can only be described as more Disco than Jazz but it really worked and is now one of Lonnie's standards along with 'Expansions' and 'Space Princess'. The album Exotic Mysteries, as Lonnie points out on the sleeve notes, was one of his personal favorites to record and an album where he discovered a young 16 year old Marcus Miller, who wrote several songs for the album, and Lonnie knew he would be a star.

It is 1850 in the beautiful, perfectly-kept town of Wismar. Jonathan Harker is about to leave on a long journey over the Carpathian Mountains to finalize real estate arrangements with a wealthy nobleman. His wife, Lucy, begs him not to go and is troubled by a strong premonition of danger. Despite her warnings, Jonathan arrives four weeks later at a large, gloomy castle. New Wave / Power-Pop

The Knack attempted to update the Beatles sound for the new wave era on their debut – a good idea that was well executed, but critics cried "foul" when millions sold after Capitol's pre-release hype (it went gold in 13 days and eventually sold five million copies, making it one of the most successful debuts in history)…
