Hollies In Concert at the Television Theatre, Golders Green.

The Hollies are an English pop group from Manchester formed in the early 1960s. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style (which influenced many other groups) they became one of the leading British groups of the era, and they enjoyed considerable popularity in many other countries although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Like the Rolling Stones and Steeleye Span, they are also notable as one of the few British pop groups of the 1960s that has never officially broken up and which continues to record and perform to the present.

During 1956-61, Harry Arnold led one of the most popular jazz big bands in Sweden, a talented outfit that included such fine players as trombonist Ake Persson, altoist Arne Domnerus, pianist Bengt Hallberg and American trumpeter Benny Bailey. This CD has three previously unreleased radio broadcasts and finds the band at the height of its power. Quincy Jones is conductor and arranger of the final four selections including "The Midnight Sun Never Sets" and "Meet Benny Bailey." This well-recorded music is easily recommended to fans of 1950's-style jazz. ~ Scott Yanow
