Living in the Shadows is an apt title for this four-disc box set from Earth Recordings. Its subject, guitarist Bert Jansch, is a certified legend, world-renowned for his groundbreaking early solo records, his membership in Pentangle, and his innovative playing style that stretched the boundaries of various Celtic and European folk musics to embrace improvisational jazz, rock, and Middle Eastern modalism and influenced generations of players.
The Shadows are easily the most popular and influential British instrumental group of all time. Their career started in the late 50's as Cliff Richard's backing band and they consistently hit the singles charts well into the 80's. Lead guitarist Hank Marvin is cited by many modern pickers as a major influence. Throughout the latter part of their career, they released many instrumental covers and interpretations of classic themes.
In autumn 2009, Cliff Richard & The Shadows (Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch & Brian Bennett) were reunited for a concert tour for the very last time. Starting in Ireland, the tour ran extensively in the UK before heading off around the rest of Europe. The tour celebrates the 50th anniversary of Cliff & The Shadows first collaboration, a partnership that would go one to be one of the most successful in UK chart history. The set list is drawn from their many successful years of performing together and is full of the toe tapping hits that everybody knows and loves.
This is a expanded edition of a set originally issued in 1991, on 6 CDs. It Now contains all their studio recordings from 1959-1966 in stereo. With the exception of their first seven tracks from 1959 which were only made in mono. The set additionally contains 31 tracks in mono that we believe have not been previously available on cd.
