Rushed out in 1970 as a way to bide time as the Who toiled away on their follow-up to Tommy, Live at Leeds wasn't intended to be the definitive Who live album, and many collectors maintain that the band had better shows available on bootlegs. But those shows weren't easily available whereas Live at Leeds was, and even if this show may not have been the absolute best, it's so damn close to it that it would be impossible for anybody but aficionados to argue…

The English rock band The Who perform on their first live album Live at Leeds. The album features, what is considered to be, the group's best line-up with Pete Townshend on guitar, Roger Daltrey on lead vocals, John Entwistle on bass guitar and Keith Moon on the drums. Live at Leeds, often referred to as one of the best live rock albums of all time, was recorded at the University of Leeds in Yorkshire. The 33 song set list includes "My Generation", "Summertime Blues" and "Magic Bus", along with many other classic titles by the group.

The Who's Live at the Royal Albert Hall captures a charity concert for a cancer organization the reunited group performed in November of 2000. Given the band's spotty track record in their farewell tours and reunions of the '80s and '90s, it's easy for some longtime fans to be skeptical of the musical merits of the triple-disc hybrid SACD release of this concert, but this is an exceptional reunion concert, finding the band at their strongest since their early-'80s breakup. Supported by drummer Zak Starkey and longtime keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, and John Entwistle (in one of his last major concerts) sound reinvigorated, playing such standards as "I Can't Explain" and "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" with vigor and energy, as if they haven't played them countless times.

Eagle Records’ 2010 release of The Who Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 is essentially a repackaged reissue of Legacy’s 1996 archival release, containing the same 30 songs over two discs. This, of course, makes sense: both CD editions contain the entirety of the concert, which was heavily bootlegged before the official 1996 release. Eagle Records doesn’t change anything but the cover art, but it doesn’t need to: this is one of the Who’s legendary live shows, not as good as Live at Leeds but running a close second, and is certainly worthwhile for any serious fan.

The Who was near the height of its powers as one of Britain's greatest hard-rock bands when they played the massive 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival for an audience of nearly 600,000. Filmmaker Murray Lerner, who captured the festival on film for the documentary Message To Love: The Isle of Wight Festival, focuses exclusively on The Who's set with this film, in which the band took the stage at 2 a.m. and electrified the sleepy crowd. The set includes "I Can't Explain," "My Generation," "Magic Bus," the rarities "Water" and "I Don't Even Know Myself," and a truncated version of the rock opera "Tommy."

The rock legends dropped by "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to make their first U.S. late-night performance in nearly a decade. For the visit, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend delivered a rousing take on "Who Are You", featuring a phenomenal, climatic solo by the guitar god.

2012 two CD release, an edited version of the concert originally available in the Super Deluxe Live At Hull box set. Live At Hull is a warts-and-all document - that strange popping sound noticeable at times is the sound of Keith Moon's frenzied drumstick attack making contact with the overhead mic. But after four decades of being neglected it's a document to savor, capturing The Who at their performing pinnacle and is presented here in edited form.
