Odessey and Oracle is the second studio album by English rock band The Zombies. Mainly recorded between June and August 1967 at Abbey Road and Olympic Studios, it was released on 19 April 1968 by CBS Records. "Time of the Season" was released as a single and became a surprise hit in early 1969. The album was received indifferently on release, but has since become critically acclaimed. It ranked #100 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time…

Odessey and Oracle was one of the flukiest (and best) albums of the 1960s, and one of the most enduring long-players to come out of the entire British psychedelic boom, mixing trippy melodies, ornate choruses, and lush Mellotron sounds with a solid hard rock base.

But it was overlooked completely in England and barely got out in America (with a big push by Al Kooper, who was then a Columbia Records producer); and it was neglected in the U.S. until the single "Time of the Season," culled from the album, topped the charts nearly two years after it was recorded, by which time the group was long disbanded…

It's almost criminal that The Zombies had disbanded after recording this wonderful album. Thanks God many people is (re)discovering the beautiful magic of O&O (and Zombies music in general). Great reissue by UK label Big Beat, both stereo and mono mixes sounds great (particulary I love the album in mono), the bonus tracks are really good (the cello part in 'A Rose For Emily' can bring tears to your eyes and the wild drumming in 'Time Of The Season just rocks) and Alec Palao provides complete notes. One of the best albums ever recorded.

When The Zombies' original members realized that it was 40 years since the release of their seminal album `Odessey & Oracle', they thought that it would be a great idea to get together again for a special anniversary celebration. So on the 7th, 8th and 9th of March 2008, along with Rod and Colin's touring band (also known as The Zombies), they played three sell-out gigs at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London to an ecstatic reception. Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone, Chris White and Hugh Grundy took to the stage and played the album for the first time ever. To capture the real sound of this iconic album, with its double-tracked harmonies, overdubbed keyboards and percussion. This double disc set is a recording made of the entire concert on the night of March 8th 2008. Disc One features 14 tracks (the whole album) whilst Disc Two features Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent solo recordings plus other Zombies recordings.

2011 album from the British Pop/Rock legends led by founding members Rod Argent and singer Colin Blunstone. A magisterial work, it is everything you could possibly hope for from the group who, back in the '60s, provided such signature works as the singles 'She's Not There', 'Tell Her No' and 'Time of the Season' and the album Odessey And Oracle, their 1968 Brit Psych masterpiece.

This collection, remastered for SACD, covers the Zombies’ short and tasteful career, spanning their 1964-1967 years for Decca Records, and their single album, the classic Odessey & Oracle, for Epic Records in 1968. Two versions of “She’s Not There” are included here, one the so-called “stereo underdub” version that lacks the snappy drum overdub that gives the superior single version its crisp, edgy feel. There are also two mixes of “Time of the Season”, the familiar version and an alternate mix that features a little more organ in the verse sections.
