Produced in 2008, We Meet Again Tonight is a celebration of the Whiffenpoof tradition of meeting for song and revelry at Mory's each Monday night. The twenty-one song album contains Whiffenpoof favorites such as 'MacNamara's Band' and 'I'll Be Seeing You' alongside four never-before-recorded arrangements

It's very easy to underestimate the importance of Gram Parsons to American music. He never had anything close to a hit, and while he was pivotal in the creation of country-rock, and by rote, alternative country, none of his direct efforts at it (the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo, an album and a half with the Flying Burrito Brothers, his own two solo albums) stirred up any kind of mass public acceptance.

From the Archives Vol. 6 is a release from The Future Sound of London's From the Archives series. As with the rest of the series, the music within covers their unreleased 1990s experiments and songs that never made it to the albums released at the time. This particular volume begins with earlier material based around the band's acid techno years, and moves into more abstract and experimental work further into the album. Following the popularity of the previous two volumes, volume 6 is segued from start to finish, with no gaps between tracks.

Label: Playscape | Rel:2000

Michael Musillami recorded this album back in 1990, and in 2000 it was reissued by the guitarist's own Playscape label as part one of a trilogy. (The trilogy also includes 1992's Mar's Bars and 1994's Groove Teacher.) All three albums are eloquent statements from a fine guitarist and composer, but they're also vital documents in the tragically shortened career of the late alto saxophonist and flutist Thomas Chapin. On part one, Archives, Musillami and Chapin are joined by pianist Kent Hewitt, bassist Nat Reeves, and drummer Steve Johns. The wholly original program kicks off with the title track, its unusual half-time, walking tempo setting a tone that hints at the avant-garde. Musillami's tone is trebly, his attack pointed and well-defined…

Let me turn you on to The Sweet (or Sweet as they’re more commonly known), the 70’s, four-piece band from England. You might know lead vocalist Brian Connolly, bassist Steve Priest, guitarist Andy Scott, and drummer Mick Tucker by their classic hits, “The Ballroom Blitz,” “Fox On the Run” “Little Willy,” and my all-time favorite Sweet tune (and one of my all-time favorite tunes overall), “Love Is Like Oxygen.” But there is so much more to this band who sold 55 million records worldwide, had 34 #1 hits, and are still touring today (although not with that original line-up). A lot of Sweet’s wonderful music is collected on the new From the Archives album.

Mystery Tracks Archives, Vol. 3 is Steve Vai's third installment of his planned ten-disc rarities retrospective, this time out collecting various hard-to-find Japanese bonus tracks, compilation cuts, and otherwise unavailable promotional tracks. Included is an edited version of the notorious "Kill the Guy With the Ball," retitled here "Speeding," and like most of the other tracks that appeared on import versions of Vai's albums, it's the type of shredding that folks have come to expect from Vai. The version of "Sofa" done at the Zappa's Universe concert, long out of print, is also included here. The most interesting tracks, however, come from some of the instrument demonstration cuts done for companies like Korg and Roland. On these tracks, Vai was inspired by (and constrained by) the sounds available to the instrument he was showcasing, and it leads him down a different path than that generally represented on his albums. There's far less bombast in these understated performances, and they really give a better indication of what a well-rounded player Vai can be.
