Welcome to Accordo dei Contrari's music. The band is actually a unit of four different people, each with his own life, experience and (sometimes opposite) view-points. This is the reason for the name Accordo dei Contrari, which by the band's self-definition, means "Council of the Opposites". Accordo dei Contrari was formed in 2001 in Bologna, Italy, conceived as a vehicle for making original instrumental music. "Kinesis", released on AltrOck in 2007, was critically acclaimed and won the Progaward for the best Italian album of progressive rock in 2007. A second studio album, "Kublai", with special guest, Canterbury Scene notable Richard Sinclair, was delivered in 2011.

Finnegans Wake is not just the name of James Joyce's baffling and impenetrable work of fiction, but the name adopted by at least a few musical ensembles over the years, not surprisingly a Celtic band based in - somewhat surprisingly after all - Las Vegas (and with "Finnegan's" in the singular possessive form). There is a Finnegans Wake band with no connection to Celtic music or Ireland or the United States, however, and that group is a bit more difficult to pinpoint in terms of both style and geography. As for style, try an avant-prog amalgam of influences including post-Canterbury prog and contemporary classical; as for geography, jump across the Atlantic from Belgium to Brazil (and throw in Germany as well). This Finnegans Wake is decidedly a rather large distance away from Blarney Rock.

Great debut from French fusioneers Camembert. Obviously endebted in title to the pothead pixies, this album plays like an easy listening Frank Zappa record. Big Band riffs, xylophone runs, incessant tempo changes trademark the package. A fabulous record that's thrilling and easy listening all at the same time. If I ran a department store this record would be on repeat.

Cucamonga are an explosive quintet from Argentina. As their most evident inspiration, that is a “certain” Frank Zappa, hang always in the balance between jazz, rock and experimentation. Supported by an infallible rhythm section, the band holds together an extremely precise writing and elegant harmonies with an enviable melodic and solistic freshness: electric piano, percussions and guitar run after each other through themes and solos, able to go from hard grooves to breathtaking breaks and funny atmospheres.

Mamma Non Piangere was a relatively unknown RIO band heading from Italy in the late 70's, and released two albums during their short-lived career. They formed in Milan around 1978 by guitarist/violinist Lorenzo Leddi, who also was the only member to be featured on both of their albums. They disbanded shortly after the release of their second album, which was recorded live shortly after the release of their debut album and had a completely different line-up other than Leddi's presence. The reason why they disbanded are temporarly unknown. Musically, they are heavily reminiscent of bands such as Henry Cow, Gruppo D'alternativa, Stormy Six and other bands notable from the RIO genre…

From Norway the sixth album by this great band! At the turn of the prog, avant King Crimson and Canterbury, with a typical Nordic flavor.

Not a Good Sign is a project by AltrOck and some bands’ members of the label. Marcello Marinone, Paolo «Ske» Botta and Francesco Zago, after a successful collaboration in Yugen and Ske, propose a new blend of their musical attitudes. The result is an ominous, fascinating sound melting vintage keyboards, powerful guitars and voice, besides ethereal and autumn nuances, supported by a compelling rhythmic drive. The band takes their name from one of their own songs but the expression also alludes to their take on the present economic climate across the globe, a situation that in turn mirrors the dark mood on the debut album…

Based in Palermo, Italy, Homunculus Res is an often breezy group whose music harks back to the pop side of the '60s-'70s Canterbury sound and early Italian prog of the same era, with suitably retro elements but also the compositional complexity and production touches one would expect from a 21st century release on the Milan-based avant-prog AltrOck label…

Rational Diet, the group existing since the late 90-s in Belarus proposes an unusual mix of styles and sounds: Chamber music, rock, theatre and improvisation, supported by the amazingly instrumental abilities of their components. It's difficult to define the mood of such music, which goes from dark atmosphere to grotesque, powerful or oniric, sometimes even humoristic. Violin, cello, bassoon, saxes and accordion - besides the traditional rock instruments - chase each other along the dizzy instrumental plots, or sustain the dazed texts by the Russian avant-garde poets Daniil Charms and Alexander Vvedensky.
