Formed in 1968 in Warwick, England, the Edgar Broughton Band were part of the late 60s British underground blues boom. Led by the Broughton brothers, vocalist/guitarist Edgar Broughton and drummer Steve Broughton, and fleshed out by bassist Arthur Grant and guitarist Victor Unitt (who also briefly served with The Pretty Things), they were contemporaries of Groundhogs, Hawkwind, and The Pink Fairies, but were unique within the movement due to their radical political consciousness. In May 1971 they released possibly their finest work: their eponymous third album, which contained the classic "Evening Over Rooftops" (with strings by David Bedford which Edgar Broughton called "stunning"). Mike Oldfield also featured on "Thinking Of You".

A hugely gifted pianist, composer and bandleader, Randy Weston is among the most highly regarded jazz musicians still active. A great admirer, esteemed fellow keys player Marian McPartland OBE, hailed him "one of the world's great visionary pianists and composers." With nods to Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, Weston is well known for his distinctive and unique sound, one able to induce the full spectrum of emotion in the listener via his rhythmic, percussive technique. Born 6th April 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, his Jamaican parents owned a restaurant in the borough. Weston began taking classical piano and dance lessons at an early age, and when his father Frank enrolled him at the highly-reputable Boys High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, the young pianist began studying under Professor Atwell - a teacher who allowed him to explore music outside the classical genre.

Unlike it's predecessors for the label, Roy produced the album himself working with his then-bassist David Metcen who co-produced and contributed five songs to the nine-track set. Other Ayers' band members playing on the album included William Allen and Dennis Davis with long-time friend James Bedford contributing his songwriting talents on three songs.
