When Empires Burn is the fourth solo studio album by Bob Catley, released by Frontiers Records in 2003. Powerful and mighty, classy and victorious! Bob Catley and his men rides towards the sunrise with glory from the battles they've won on the horizon from chasing dragons, this is the time when empires burn and soldiers stood tall in their pompous castles.
Middle Earth is the third solo studio album by Bob Catley, released by Frontiers Records in 2000. The album draws upon J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings for inspiration. The original title for the album given to the music press was Lord of the Rings.
Legends is the second solo studio album by Bob Catley, released by Frontiers Records in 1999. The album's songs are based on legendary characters and literature, (Homer, Dracula, The Phantom of the Opera, etc..).
Bob has teamed up with Ten frontman, and longstanding Magnum fan, Gary Hughes who has written all the songs on "The Tower" (as well as producing and playing bass and keyboards). "The Tower" was written with classic Magnum very much in mind and harks back to "On A Storyteller's Night" style pomp meeting "Wings Of Heaven" style AOR with a very 90s melodic rock production bringing the old sound bang up to date.
2008 album from the vocalist with British Hard Rockers Magnum, his sixth solo release. The songwriting on Immortal is handled by guitar ace Magnus Karlsson (Starbreaker, Primal Fear). The sound is on the heavy spectrum of Bob's abilities, but manages to incorporate the Epic atmospheres on Magnum and Bob Catley's early solo albums.
Over the last 25 years Bob Catley has established a reputation as one of Britain's top vocalists with his work in MAGNUM and more recently as a solo artist. In 1998, Bob teamed up with TEN front man, and longstanding MAGNUM fan, Gary Hughes who wrote all the songs on his first three solo albums: "The Tower", "Legends" and "Middle Earth". These albums received not only critical but commercial successes. This reaction from the press summed up the exact aim of these releases perfectly.
For a musician like Tony Clarkin who composes constantly, viewing and selecting the material he has written is always one of the most significant moments during the creation process of a new Magnum album. On the one hand it s a luxury to have the opportunity to separate the wheat from the chaff and to be in a position to use only the strongest numbers. On the other hand it's also a difficult process, because after all the creator of those songs has grown fond of every single one of them. I usually start composing for our next album immediately after the release of the previous one, Clarkin explains…
Rock operas seem to be quite fashionable these days, but this one is just too good and interesting to dismiss it as "just another one". Just a look at the participants shows that this is an almost safe play, with musicians from VANDEN PLAS, PINK CREAM 69 and SILENT FORCE, while the characters are sung by D.C. Cooper (SILENT FORCE; also responsible for all the lyrics), Sabine Edelsbacher (EDENBRIDGE), Andy Kuntz (VANDEN PLAS), David Readman (PINK CREAM 69), plus a professional soul and an opera soprano (both, of course, female), so highest quality ensured in this department, too.
