Phipps, Elena, "Cochineal Red: The Art History of a Color"
Publisher: Metropolitan Museum of Art | 2010 | ISBN: 0300155131 | English | PDF | 48 pages | 18.48 Mb

From antiquity to the present day, color has been embedded with cultural meaning. Associated with blood, fire, fertility, and life force, the color red has always been extremely difficult to achieve and thus highly prized. This book discusses the origin of the red colorant derived from the insect cochineal, its early use in Precolumbian ritual textiles from Mexico and Peru, and the spread of the American dyestuff through cultural interchange following the Spanish discovery and conquest of the New World in the 16th century. Drawing on examples from the collections of the Metropolitan Museum, it documents the use of this red-colored treasure in several media and throughout the world.

Taken from the best Debussy cycle to appear in the CD era, these repackagings gather the items that one-disc-at-a-time buyers tend to miss. Playing combines flair, care, and great musical enjoyment. High points include the superb Anne Queffélec as solo pianist in the Fantaisie and some rare items: the Rapsodie for alto sax, the whimsical orchestration of La plus que lente featuring cimbalom, and piano pieces scored by other hands. The Ulster Hall acoustic is spacious but clear.

American jazz pianist Claude Williamson, although born in Vermont, moved to California early in his career and worked with West Coast jazz heavyweights Art Pepper, Max Roach, Bud Shank and Stan Levey. Williamson also spent a portion of his career in television, starting in the late 1960s, including stints with both The Andy Williams Show and Sonny and Cher. On this 1956 release, a mix of Williamson originals and standards, the pianist is backed by bassist Don Prell and drummer Chuck Flores.
Jean Claude Pennetier - Mozart: Piano Concertos No. 21 & No. 24 (2017)

Classical | WEB FLAC (tracks) & d. booklet | 57:52 min | 219 MB
Label: Mirare | Tracks: 06 | Rls.date: 2017

With these two piano concertos, Jean-Claude Pennetier establishes the authenticity of Mozart’s gift. The tenderness and fire of No. 21 mirror the anguish and inner intensity of No. 24. The two pieces are close to perfect and prove, as Mauriac put it, that: “As long as men inhabit the earth, just a few bars of Mozart can remind us of the paradise we lost, a paradise that may still exist as long as we can hear the echoes of its laughter and tears in such divine music.
