When in 2011, with the release of the highly acclaimed ‘Feel The Heat’, Nick Colionne announced his switch to Trippin N Rhythm I commented that despite the trials and tribulations being encountered at the time by the world of contemporary jazz, the superb Colionne seemed to be marching from strength to strength. Of course Colionne was then, and still remains, one of the most engaging live performers around and without doubt the best dressed man in smooth jazz. Yet Nick’s own trials and tribulations were set to go on a while longer. Dealing with the death of his longtime manager Carol Ray was hard to bear yet with his 2014 project ‘Influences’ and his latest CD ‘The Journey’ (which will be released on Trippin N Rhythm in April of this year) Colionne is proving that life goes on.

Smooth jazz guitarist and vocalist Nick Colionne delivers enjoyable performances on his seventh studio effort, Feel the Heat. A veteran at this point, Colionne truly has little to prove, but that mindset does nothing to cloud his strong efforts here. From the first track to the closing track, one can easily hear Colionne’s sheer talents as a smooth jazz guitarist with superb soloing abilities.

Well into his third decade of making the strings sing with his very own sweet Chicago soul, guitarist Nick Colionne digs deep as he takes musical stock of the people and things that helped propel his career and fully establish his place as one of the real cats, a cat that finds connection with his audience in a way that not many can.

Silk brings in a lot of familiar mega-talent on this one, including fellow Englishman and smooth jazz guitar icon Peter White, the always dapper and super-cool guitarist Nick Colionne, songstress Katie Leone, trumpet giant Rick Braun, the lovely flutist Althea Rene, and sax virtuosos Steve Cole and Phil Denny. As usual, Silk dazzles with his trademark fluid style of blowing up either piano or keys. His love of this music simply dances from his fingertips and into one’s heart, which is why he remains so well regarded among jazzers.
