A boy preacher named Isaac goes to a town in Nebraska called Gatlin and gets all the children to murder every adult in town. A young couple have a murder to report and they go to the nearest town (Gatlin) to seek help but the town seems deserted. They are soon trapped in Gatlin with little chance of getting out alive.

Schoolteacher Lilly Moffat is dismayed by conditions in a Welsh mining town. She sets up a school to teach fundamental education to the villagers. Her housekeeper and daughter oppose the project, as does the local Squire who will not rent her space. Using part of her own home, she goes ahead with Miss Moffat's School. One of her students Morgan Evans turns from bully to brilliant student.

This tale about inner artistic life is not the first in Marc Allégret's career; one can remember also, at least, his Entrée des artistes (1938) or even Sans famille (1934), where troubles of orphanage and vagrancy were less important than magic and mystery of art. You can smell this delicate scent of joy of artistic life and sadness of artistic freedom (forsakenness) in "Futures vedettes" too. The whole palette of feelings in the beginning of artistic career - fear, delight, fascination, hope, naïvety and so on - is concentrated in two main female roles: Brigitte Bardot & Isabelle Pia; and the latter, though now is unfairly forgotten, is even more strong and representative than the former.
