It is a crime that these pieces are not better known. They are extraordinary, of great depth, truly beautiful, and highly addictive. That's all I have to say. Great music performed with gusto. Classical training and virtuosity is self evident. I enjoyed this CD very much. Composer and lyricist Dana Suesse was a child prodigy, giving her first concert, a Rachmaninoff prelude, at the age of nine. At 16 she moved to New York and began composing songs.
Dana Dawson skillfully balanced a musical career with work as an actor. Making her theatrical debut at the age of seven with a national touring production of Annie, she joined the national tour of Rent in October 2000. She continued to perform in the musical show when it made its Broadway premiere in August 2001. Dawson was equally successful as a vocalist, releasing her debut album, Paris, New York and Me, in 1991. Her second album, Black Butterfly, released during the summer of 1996, included the dance hit "3 Is Family." Released in England, her 2001 single, "Nice Life," was featured on the soundtrack of the Disney Channel show Lizzie McGuire.
For the first time in her career, Blues diva Dana Gillespie releases a live album. After four studio sets for Ace, dating back to 1982's Blue Job, this CD is released in response to the demand by her audiences around the world. Recorded with the London Blues Band in Poole in 2006, the set features the dynamic guitar skills of Dino Baptiste. No fancy studio tweaks are used here. Dana and the Band cut the mustard, with the very highest level of musicianship, spiced up with a lot of fun, to create this straight-ahead record of a fabulous gig from a great singer with a great band.
