Tristan Pfaff - Piano Encores (2015)

After a CD devoted to Liszt and Schubert in a second, the French pianist Tristan Pfaff shows us that it is not trying to be seen as a "specialist" of a particular directory, composer or genre. And in which directory can we draw to show the best eclectic? In the bis course, these little (or sometimes big enough) candy tower dreamers turn outrageously virtuosic, naughty, stunning or moving. Pfaff chose not to choose, so that surfs the quasi-jazz Gershwin at Tartine butter Mozart, Schubert to Rachmaninov, with the same happiness and always with a selected sound for the genre he tackles . A very fine choice that will appeal to everyone.

Charles Aznavour turned 90 in 2014. His passion for singing and performing on stage determinedly, relentlessly carried him over the years. Having performed before audiences since the age of 9, the young man grew into the great Charles, music-hall icon, cornerstone of French song and one of the very few Gallic artists with a truly international following over the decades.

Celebrated for his pivotal role in resurrecting the Bach suites for solo cello and championing their performance throughout his career, Pablo Casals' repertoire was much more far-reaching. Perhaps the best way to observe the breadth of his interests is to investigate the works he chose to perform as encores. Flashy, virtuosic show pieces certainly had their place in this repertoire, but Casals looked more favorable upon works that highlighted the more lyrical, soulful aspects of his instrument. Not content with the pieces already available to him, Casals was also responsible for greatly increasing the repertoire by contributing his own transcriptions, often of works by little-known composers.
