This is the second volume in this series of 60s girl group rarities. The original vinyl of this had only 12 tracks and was issued in 1963. This is the 30 track CD edition. This cd is out of print and somewhat scarce. This rip is from my new CD that I just opened to make this rip.
After the success of the Yellow Cube and the Black Box, the 3rd box will once again travel the musical planet Nova in all directions and at all times since the 50s.
Another 'Great' Compilation collectable which is sure to trigger many a memory of those times. A DVD collection with the title of "Das Beste aus dem Musikladen" features 35 + 5 classic music promos across a diverse range of styles.
This Is Acid Jazz Vol. 7: Steppin' Out (INS514, 50:17) is a low-key affair, showcasing the usual suspects (Shakatak, The JB Horns, Gota) and talents deserving wider recognition (The Sharpshooters, Woody Cunningham). Perfect beat moments: CFM Band's churning Bobby Byrd ("Get on up/Get into it!")/Headhunters/Tom Browne-pastiche "Make It Funky CFM," Cunningham's straight-outta-'70s funk-on-a-slow-roll "Tonite."
Never realised the breadth of the "Pop-Sike" genre until I heard Fading Yellow, a really fine compilation that hangs together beautifully as an album. That most of the tracks are obscure isn't surprising: everything is a little odd, a little ramshackle, with a strong melancholic undertow and not a little creepiness. Of course, this music is also specific to a particular time in Western pop music history so there's a strong nostalgic element, but the knowledge this music could never be exactly replicated is what also makes it so fascinating. Recommended, in a warm and loving 60s way.
The third volume of the Rare Cuts series on Master Stroke presents rarities from 1977 to 1982 from News Of The World to Hot Space. Not only is the their peak in popularity, but also a peak in their experimentation with other musical styles and with flirtations with many and various fashion statements. None of the tracks on this disc are new, but it is a nice compilation of the rarities floating around in different forms…
