This is the latest album of Jesse Cook where the charismatic guitarist broadens his canvas with jazzy ballads, soft blues, and smooth, atmospheric instrumental pop to make what is probably his most broadly accessible release to date. He included two legendary ballads (Hawkins’s signature “I Put a Spell on You” and Jacques Brel’s masterpiece “Ne Me Quitte Pas”) with the pitch-perfect contribution of the vocalist Emma Lee. Jesse proves to be excellent into the new territories he experimented. Enjoy.

"Tempest" is the debut album of the popular Nouveau Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook. The album quickly became a best seller and Cook's fan club never stopped to grow since. A substantial part of the album's publicity was gained after the tracks "Tempest" and "Breeze from Saintes Maries" were used by a local Ontario cable TV operator as background music for their TV program listing channel. One album was enough for Jesse Cook to become a first class star of Ruba Flamenco, as he loves to call his fusion style. Jesse's exceptionally clean style is absolutely wonderful whether playing a slow, thoughtful piece like Soledad or blazingly quick like the title track. Enjoy.

I've been anticipating the release of this album for some time since I am a huge Jesse Cook fan and this new master-piece does not disappoint. The feel of the album is very different compared to previous releases but I find myself lost in a new intrigue of musical passion as I enjoy the energetic tempo of songs like, "Matisse the Cat" and "Havana". Melissa McClelland's rich voice aligns beautifully with a brilliant arrangement of Bob Dylan's, "It Ain't Me Babe". I found several songs, such as "Turning" and "Europa" very ethereal and magical. If you are a Jesse Cook fan or just love the sound of a beautiful guitar, this CD is a must!

Popular Canadian flamenco phenomena Jesse Cook toured the world putting together the aptly titled Nomad, his fifth album. As with past efforts, Cook's lightning runs and strong flamenco rhythms are fused with Arabic and Indian rhythms and textures, Western pop vocals, and hip ambient production values not unlike a Buddha Bar collection. He also again gets some nice turns from an impressive list of guest musicians: Nomad's guests include Flora Purim, Afro Celts, the BoDeans, Hossam Ramzy, who each add their own touch. While this kind of cross-genre pollination will not endear Cook to the flamenco purists (even if there is a fair amount of flamenco's classic handclapping rhythms), there are some real strengths to the album. Cook's knowledge of his music allows him to step in out of the tradition, knowing what works without trying to force the issue. Moreover, Cooks solos bristle with the kind of energy one doesn't hear every day, even in the fiery field of flamenco. –Tad Hendrickson

Canadian rumba flamenco artist Jesse Cook has blended the exotic Spanish music form with elements of new age, jazz, and easy listening on his releases for Narada Records. Vertigo was released two years later, and Free Fall appeared in mid-2000.
