"Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" is at its heart a tale of unjust imprisonment and offbeat escape, in the tradition of "The Count of Monte Cristo." Andy Dufresne was sent to Shawshank prison in 1948 for the murder of his wife and her lover the golf pro at Falmouth Hills. Like everyone at Shawshank, Andy declares he is innocent but it is not many years later that Red, the narrator of the story and the one man at Shawshank who can get you things, comes to believe that is actually the case. Until that point this novella has been about how a man, innocent or otherwise, survives in a prison, and about the creation of a true friendship. But then it becomes a personal quest for justice and about beating the system when the game is fixed.

The life and career of 1940s sex symbol Rita Hayworth (1918-1987) is affectionately but uncompromisingly recounted in this cable TV documentary, produced by Hugh Hefner and narrated by actress Kim Basinger.

Born into a show business family, Rita Cansino was still a pre-teen when she attracted the attention of Hollywood with her sultry Latin looks and her remarkable dancing skills. With her first husband, the much-older Edward C. Judson, as her manager and agent, Rita managed to land a starlet contract at 20th Century Fox, then moved on to greater glory when, signed by Columbia Pictures, she was re-christened Rita Hayworth and given a more "all-American" image via cosmetic surgery, electrolysis, and a new crop of flaming red hair.

The last months of Jesse James's life, from meeting Robert Ford, a 19-year-old who idolizes Jesse, to the day Ford shoots him. Jesse's a wanted man, living under a pseudonym, carrying out a train robbery, disappearing to Kentucky, and reappearing to plan a bank holdup with Robert and Robert's brother as his team. The rest of the gang is dead, arrested, or gone from Missouri. Whenever Jesse's around, there's tension: he's murderous, quixotic, depressed, and cautious. Ford wants to be somebody and wants the reward. On April 3, 1882, things come to a head: Jesse is 34, Robert 20. Ford becomes famous, reenacting the shooting on stage, facing down the label "coward," shot dead in 1892.

Rita Hayworth
Having adopted a WASPy name took nothing away from the sexiness of Margarita Carmen Cansino, the young dancer who was born into a family of Spanish immigrants. Still a teenager, she began acting in minor movies in the '30s. Her first husband, Edward Judson, took control of her career, signed her to a fruitful deal at Columbia, and the rest is history.

The studio had her raise her hairline with electrolysis and dye her hair auburn, and before long, she was the quintessence of exquisiteness. Nicknamed "The Love Goddess," her pinup status was cemented when Life magazine published the famous picture of her kneeling on a bed, in 1941 (which also made her the second favorite pinup of WWII soldiers).

She starred in films in the '40s and '50s that thrust her to stardom, such as The Lady in Question and Gilda . Some even say that the popular cocktail "Margarita" was named after Rita Hayworth, when she was dancing at a club in Tijuana under her real name.

'Men go to bed with Gilda, but wake up with me.'
